Description Taken in the the Medieval walled in town of Gruyere, Switzerland, this lantern overlooked the beautiful forested mountain beyond the walls. The Crane is the emblem of the town, hence its presence here on the lantern. Of course, this is where the Gruyere cheese comes from, not to mention the famous double creme.

Thank you so much for the fab comment! Yes, I agree that the lamp itself is stunning. They have many signs and lamps like this throughout the town which so add to the character and antique charm of the place!

How lucky you are! ~ Is not just the lamp which is stunning, there is so many details in it to be amazed by ! Mainly, the iron-work, the fleur-De-lis which to me is the ultimate symbol of awesomeness and the pelican holding the lamp itself...obviously back in medieval times, creativity knew no limits ... thanks for this amazing shot ~ I'll scout your gallery for moaar ~

Yes, indeed I am lucky to have so many amazing places around me to visit. I really do appreciate that. Thank you so much for the comment and I am so glad that you appreciate the workmanship in the lantern. It isn't actually a pelican but a crane--it became the symbol of the town because the nobleman who originally decided to build his castle there said that he would use the first bird that he saw there as its symbol and it was the crane. Or so the legend has it. thank for perusing my gallery when you get a chance. There is another lantern shot from Monaco that might interest you as well.
