This was the first time that I had ever seen an actual live polar bear up close. He jumped into this big tank and looked right at the audience as he swam around at a sea life park in Antibes, France.Related content

I had never seen a live polar bear before this and he was indeed quite scary to see. But he was also very firmly behind a solid fence and had this wonderfully big swimming pool in which to swim, which is where this photo was taken. But the way he prowled around, nope, definitely wouldn't want to be on an ice floe with him! And to be honest, much as it was amazing to see him, I would much prefer that he be able to be returned to his native surroundings. He was quite out of place in the South of France.
