Oh wow, I was SO in love with HaerΒ΄Dalis!
He really broke my heart when he hooked up with Aerie.....

I have to play BG2 again...

Really like this one...IMO it suits Haer'Dalis much better than the other portrait...it looks weird, strange and even bizarre...but in a good way...after all he is a Tiefling and a planar walker.

I came upon your portraits when looking at BG forums and I must say - WOW! I've been a huge fan of BG series for years now (basically grew up with that game) and so I've seen quite "a few people try at portraits and art. I also played all the old RPG's including Planescape Torment and IWD series and I must say without any doubt that your portraits literally shamed all the artists who made portraits for those games...developer and modder alike. Your portraits just look stunning and amazing....there is no other word to describe it. I truly admire your work.

Cheers.

Very nice picture! Like others, I like the eyes - although the electric blue hair is good too.

Comment shower incoming, open your umbrella!

Tieflings are awesome. Period. I kinda dislike how 4e made them all look the same: green pupil-less eyes, horns instead of hair and a rat tail, blegh. Haery here is one of the kind blue-haired dude. <3 Even though I used him maybe once or twice during my playthroughs, heheheh. But the EYES.

THE EYES.

I think the fun part about designing tieflings should be that they can look completely different from each other, since there's so many types/breeds of devils and demons, after all... it's kind of silly to say they all have to have a certain feature. I don't remember which version it was, not 4e I guess? xD but it said sometimes they appear like normal humans but just have an aura of 'wrongness' about them: something unsettling, just a touch of strangeness that makes you uncomfortable. I like it when it can be a little more subtle and kind of sneak up on you. (Although I suppose his eyes here are pretty obvious, haha, but still. )

I meant these tieflings.

And you notice his eyes first... but not his ahem... electric blue hair?

well, maybe people could dye their hair hahaa (but good point). I just know I had a customer come in with 'zombie' kind of cataract contacts in one time, and I looked up and almost literally jumped or flinched or something; it was so hard for me to maintain any kind of eye contact, even though I knew it was part of a costume. xD So I think having weird eyes is super-freaky, personally. But I see 'weird' hair more frequently... not sure which would stand out more in the Faerun, though.

And re: those images---blechhh. They're like, so.... creature-y with those tails, ew. I kind of thought Valen or Neeshka's tails were a bit interesting, but those really thick ones are just over-the-top IMO.

Zombie eyes, eeep. I personally can't stand zombies. Vampires? Bring 'em on! Zombies... Nuh-uh. I'm outta here. But I still find something unsettling in milky-white empty eyes - my old, old VERY old first draft of VE had white eyes. I dunno why I settled on black/red... maybe because they looked more Edwin-ish?

They are certainly proud of their heritage in 4e, eh. Subtlety? What's that? xD

All in all it looks quite nice, but TariToons made a good point with the skull shape

TariToons [2013-08-17 03:12:52 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I think the problem with this one is the skull shape, you should make it bigger on the back like here: Β

Another idea for the eyes is to simply make the iris darker while still leaving his pupils away. Or you add a darker outlines to the iris.

Other than that, I really like the way you drew his lips, they are still big without making him look as creepy as in the original portrait. Also, yay for stretched earlobes ~
