Yeah, I would cringe at the thought of a candle lit inside a bookshelf. And you're right about the eye. Yes, she could be doing anything, which is what I love about doing pictures that seem to tell a story. It allows the person to make of it what they want.

I agree. That strange spot or dash of color seems to bring life and visual interest to an otherwise "bland" area of all the same value. I first started to really explore it with this piece here: [link]

Yes, I think the magentaish red color you've worked into her hair is a good addition. It's close to the same value, but a warm color and just enough 'brightness' to add spark to her hair without standing out too much. I like those slightly lighter blues, too (cool, in temperature, and subdued light showing up on her hair) and the lighter gold values you've put in strategically on the wall. They aren't necessarily what we were talking about, but a little less subtly they bring some light and zing and contrast to the background. I do LOVE playing with colors, color temperatures and values, experimenting with them to see what I can come up with. It's a really subtle but key aspect to a painting or drawing, like adding a grace note to a song or a bit of spice in the stir fry.

Good idea. Do dragons read books about dragons, or are they like us and prefer something a little less commonplace?
