sorry for the critique but my recomendation is to create a bit more light coming between both rock creations and the sea could be a bit blue-wer. just my vision
but i love the concept

I admit, the carvings on these Mountains created a state of greedy inside me...

I want to know what is behind.

Each major part (the 4 cliff sections & the water) seems a little two-dimensional, but the detail is really sexy. I know for a fact I couldn't do better with my abilities right now, though.

What a wonderful piece of fantasy art! It is beautifully done. It has echoes of 'Lord of the Rings'.

I'm expecting to see water start flowing out of the screen and pour onto my laptop's keyboard. I've lost one machine due to water spillage. Not fun. This art however is friggin' awesome.

dude, looks amazing.

The boat seems too light? they appear to be on the darker part of the canyon, yet they're boat is quite illuminated.

Anyways, everything else is jaw-dropping here Awesome environments, keep 'em coming.

Very nice texture work, only thing I would suggest is moving the boat so it reaches the horizon line so it stays in perspective.
Love the flock of birds to, adds great scale to these awesome cliffs.

ArtDoge In reply to Rahll [2011-01-07 06:43:16 +0000 UTC]

don't think so, my references were rock cliffs from southern Jordan, statues of Ganesh, and rivers from Cambodia Though i do remember that there was a gate from LoTR that was slightly similar in composition, if that was what you were kindly referring to : ) Happy New years Reid : D

I like the color of the water, and the fact that there is a flock of birds flying overhead. You also get a sense of scale, and it indeed looks like a very bright day.

fenrysk-art [2011-01-07 03:42:56 +0000 UTC]

i really like the somber mood and the scale

what were some of the areas you thought turned out really well and which areas you'd consider improving on the next painting or series?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtDoge In reply to fenrysk-art [2011-01-07 03:52:24 +0000 UTC]

well to be honest i think the things i need to improve on is to try adding in more figures at a closer range for different composition ideas, and my method of painting in general.

fenrysk-art In reply to ArtDoge [2011-01-07 04:52:21 +0000 UTC]

lol i think most artists would say the same. the ambiance is really effective in this specific one. i noticed that your recent set of environment works have been a lot more subtle (or perhaps "muted" is a better descriptor) in attitude and colors than your regular figurative works

thanks! but photo realism isn't my cup of tea when it comes to environment paintings

Amazing! Love the atmospheric perspective and sense of scale.

How do you start the drawings? I love environment art, but never know where to begin. :\.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtDoge In reply to lunaticenigma [2011-01-07 03:08:06 +0000 UTC]

Begin with a composition, and then figure out the lighting, and then block in the colours!
