Description After winning her rematch against Momo Yaoyorozu, Yu Takeyama felt as if a huge weight
had finally been lifted off from her.
She had made up for her horrible loss from their first fight,
so she could now hopefully move forward without it haunting the back of her mind anymore.
Unfortunately, she had yet to celebrate as she still had another challenge ahead of her;
a rematch against Rumi Usagiyama, a.k.a Mirko.
After her embarrassing loss to Yaoyorozu,
Yu had challenged Mirko in a desperate attempt to improve her reputation.
She had wanted to go big, and going up against the No. 5 Pro Hero Mirko
was more than big enough for Yu.
While she did lose, Yu was able stand against her for nine rounds
before a double punch knocked her senseless enough to convince the referee to end the match. It had been a noble attempt, but Yu had barely gotten any more wins after that. Now, with her confidence restored, Yu was ready to take on the rabbit hero once more.
Mirko accepted the challenge, but instead of two days,
Yu scheduled their fight a week later under Shinji’s advice.
They would need that time to train as much as they could.
They also had the continued support of Tifa Lockhart and Cloud Strife.
Tifa had been invaluable during her training for Yaoyorozu’s match,
being the one to point out Yu’s endurance advantage over her.
Yaoyorozu had been a technical fighter, but as good as she was,
she wasn’t used to fighting for all twelve rounds of a match.
It hadn’t necessarily been a battle of attrition,
but improving Yu’s endurance for the match and Shinji keeping her awake
and active throughout were a big part in her victory.
However, that wasn’t going to work against Mirko.
With her quirk giving her the attributes of a rabbit,
Mirko could last all twelve rounds no problem
and still have enough energy for a victory lap or two after.
Luckily, Tifa had been studying Mirko since she got interested in boxing
in case she ever had to go up against the rabbit hero herself.
As such, Tifa tried her best to emulate Mirko when she sparred with Yu.
Throughout the whole week, Yu underwent a training regime worthy of a movie montage.

When she finally came face to face with Mirko in the ring, the two exchanged words.
“Well, well, well, here we are once more,” Mirko said.
“Hot off your second win and you think you’re ready to take me on again?”
Yu nodded. “Yeah. Got my appetite for rabbit back.
In fact, I think that’ll be what I’ll have for dinner after this!”
“Get whatever you want. You’ll be eating it through a straw when this is over!”
Their talk was cut short by the ref urging them to get a move on,
so they touched gloves and went back to their corners to await the bell.
Shinji was waiting for Yu in her corner, but Mirko’s was empty.
As a Pro Hero, she didn’t bother being on teams or having sidekicks assist her.
She was a one-hero agency. In boxing, she was no different.
No cornerman or medic to help her.
While that was unwise for many boxers,
Mirko’s win record had proven this to be of no hindrance to her.
“Please tell me you didn’t egg her on again,” said Shinji.
“Hey, she started it!”
“Just remember to fight with your head and not your ego.”
Yu didn’t say anything. It had been something Shinji, Tifa,
and Cloud hammered into her during the past week.
If she was gonna win this, she would need to put her ego aside
like she did with the last match.
Her losing streak had humbled her a bit,
but a fresh victory had encouraged that cockiness to resurface.
She was gonna have to keep that in check if she was gonna get her victory.

From the first round to the eighth, Yu felt like she was reliving their previous fight.
It wasn’t note for note, but it felt like the same song and dance rearranged.
Yu had come out on top in four of the rounds,
and Mirko took over the other four with both getting two knockdowns on the other.
The ninth had been where Yu ran out of gas last time,
but this time she was still in the game.
Mirko’s footwork had been impressive;
dancing around Yu and getting her up to the ropes or corner,
but Yu managed to power through and get back in the center ring.
She had even managed to corner Mirko a few times herself.
All those practice sessions were finally paying off as she was starting
to get a better grasp on predicting Mirko’s movements and countering.
When the ninth round ended, Yu said to Shinji, “I did it! I made it past the ninth!”
“That you did.” He turned her head to face him.
If he hadn’t been wearing his wooden mask, Yu would have thought he was going to kiss her,
but he was only examining her face.
Mainly her eyes. “You’re starting to get sluggish though,
and Mirko doesn’t look like she’s slowing down any time soon.”
“That’s what I got the great Kamui Woods for,” Yu said with a smile.
“You can help keep me going for the next three rounds.”
“That may not matter if she gets the better of you.”
Yu chuckled. As the pro hero Kamui Woods,
Shinji Nishiya had a habit of being too serious and determined.
But Yu’s confidence was at an all time high now.
She could beat this rabbit hero no problem!

Unfortunately, that fire began to wane during the tenth round.
Yu could still predict Mirko’s movements,
but her body was getting slower to react to Mirko’s attacks.
While Yu did get a few lucky hits in,
most of her punches whiffed in the air as Mirko easily dodged them.
The eleventh round was worse as Yu ended up being forced to defend herself
for most of the round. She even got knocked down at the end,
but the bell saved her from the ten-count with the ref only getting up to seven.
Yu would have made it up anyway, but the fatigue was becoming too much
for her on top of being punch drunk.
Shinji used smelling salts and even splashed water onto her face.
“Yu, can you hear me? Do I need to throw in the towel?”
“No! I can make it. Just one round left, right?”
“That won’t matter. Even if you make it to the end,
I’m certain they’re gonna give Mirko the win.
If you don’t take her down now, you’ll lose. Plain and simple.”
Yu looked over at Mirko. The rabbit hero was staring back at her with a shit-eating grin.
“No…” Yu said. “I didn’t work this hard just to lose now.”

With both the twelfth round and her second wind starting,
Yu rushed out and danced around Mirko.
The two traded more punches,
but Mirko started getting the upper hand once more and overwhelmed Yu.
However, Yu was able to predict Mirko shuffling to the side at one point
and managed to land a hook right into her ribs.
She felt Mirko tense up from that blow. She had been stunned!
Yu mustered everything she had and began walloping the rabbit hero with a merciless barrage. Her mind was focused like a laser as she went back and forth between headshots and bod blows, knocking Mirko around like a ragdoll and keeping her from reacting. This was it. She was doing it!
Something in the corner of Yu’s mind told her to finish this now.
Why though? She was having too much fun!
Hitting Mirko like this was more enjoyable than anything else,
especially after what she had put her through!
If Yu kept whaling on her, she’d probably go down anyway.
“Just remember to fight with your head and not your ego.”
Shinji’s words echoed in Yu’s mind and snapped her out of her euphoric battering.
She realized her punches, though still strong, were getting sluggish again.
She needed to put everything she had left in one solid hit.
Her right arm felt heavy, so Yu reeled her left back into a haymaker.
As she threw it out, Mirko had recovered and gave Yu a snarling death glare,
but the timing of Yu’s swing had been perfect.
Her purple boxing glove collided with Mirko’s cheek, turning her head,
arching her backwards, and sending her purple mouth guard flying
as she fell to the canvas like a sack of potatoes.
Yu stared at the fallen Mirko as she stumbled backwards to her corner,
hoping it had been a knockout.
But the rabbit hero began to stir, and the referee started the count.
It had been the longest ten count in Yu’s life.
That had been everything she had. If Mirko got back up now…
“TEN!”
Wait, what?
Yu heard the bell ring, and Mirko was still down on one knee. Barely, but still…
That was the last thing Yu remembered as she woke up in the infirmary.
“Yu!” Shinji had gotten up from his chair and came to Yu’s side as she pushed herself up.
“Oh shit,” Yu said. “Please tell me I won and that wasn’t all a dream.”
Shinji chuckled at that. “Don’t worry. You did.
You were able to walk out to the center of the ring and raise your fists up,
but I could tell you were running on fumes.
Luckily, you made it back to our corner and I managed to help you out before you collapsed.”
“Oh, thank god…” Yu fell back onto the bed.
No, she thought. Thank Shinji.
Remembering his words had convinced her to stop and launch that haymaker.
If she hadn’t, Mirko would have recovered, broke out of Yu’s barrage and…well,
finish her off.
“Tifa and Cloud were in here earlier.
They had to leave, but they said they’re willing to throw you a celebration
at their bar whenever you’re ready.”
Yu thought for a moment before replying.
“Sure, but maybe later.” She grabbed Shinji’s hand and gave it a squeeze.
Shinji looked up at her in surprise. “Tonight,” she said.
“I think I’d rather have a private celebration with you instead.”
Victorious in her rematch against Mirko, Yu Takeyama, a.k.a. Mt. Lady, was back.
Bigger than ever!
