Description The last day for the Seventh Heaven Boxing Event had finally arrived.
Only a handful of participants were left to face Tifa Lockhart for a chance to defeat her
and claim the prize for a lifetime discount at her bar.
One of these participants was certain of her chance for victory.
Aqua, the goddess of water, was a newcomer to the world of boxing.
She initially had no interest in the event
until she found out that the winner would get a lifetime discount
at this new bar called Seventh Heaven.
Not only that, but with the amount of hype the bar was getting leading up to the event,
it sounded like it would become a popular place for people to hang out.
If she won the event, not only could she afford to drink there all the time,
but she’d be able to attract new followers to worship her,
especially with her debut victory in the boxing league!
With the help of her friends Kazuma, Megumin, and Darkness,
Aqua dedicated most of her time training for her fight against Tifa.
When she wasn’t training, she was watching Tifa’s fights
against the other contestants in an attempt to learn from her moves
and come up with the best strategy to take her down. With some convincing,
Aqua managed to make herself the last participant to face Tifa. Sure,
she risked one of the other contestants defeating her,
but the more fights Aqua could watch Tifa in, the better her own chances would be.
Fortunately, her bet had paid off as the last day of the event had finally come
and Tifa was still undefeated.
She watched as the other participants were easily defeated after the second or third round.
Ha! How laughable. But at least Tifa had a good warmup for the goddess herself!
When it was her turn, Aqua entered through the ropes of the ring
and raised her gloved hands into the air,
welcoming the cheers being thrown at her and performing some poses for added effect.
Kazuma, Megumin, and Darkness stood ready at her corner with a full supply
of medical equipment to keep her going for twelve rounds.
Aqua was confident in her chances of knocking out Tifa long
before she would see the twelfth round, but it was best to be prepared.
Tifa herself met Aqua at the center of the ring with a smile and said,
“A goddess, huh? Sounds like fighting you is an exciting way to close this event.”
Aqua smirked back. “Yes. It would be appropriate
and understandable for you to lose to someone such as myself.
I just hope this doesn’t end too quickly for you.”
Tifa’s smile never wavered. “I like the confidence. May the best fighter win!”
“I intend to.”
Gloves touched and they went to their corners to await the bell.
Even now, Kazuma and Megumin were uncertain of Aqua’s chances
and had tried on more than one occasion to convince her to drop out,
but Aqua had her plan in mind. As soon as the bell rang,
she charged torwards Tifa screaming. Summoning her energy,
she formed the God Blow, one of her most powerful attacks that carried a goddess’s rage
and sorrow in her fist.
Her friends had expressed concern over the legality of this move in the ring,
but the boxing glove contained and hid the energy from the referee and the audience.
If this didn’t knock out Tifa, then it would at least weaken her.
Maybe even knock her back into her corner so hard that her cornerman would toss in the towel.
Having taken only a few steps from her corner,
Tifa’s face looked shocked from the sudden charge and scream by Aqua.
The goddess could tell that Tifa would have no time to dodge,
so the bartender was forced to cross her arms to block the attack.
Big mistake, Aqua thought as she threw the punch forward and hit Tifa’s arms.
The impact released a strong wave of force that blew Tifa’s hair back…but nothing else.
The two stood still for a moment before Tifa looked up above her crossed arms
with a confused expression.
Aqua quickly backed off. Okay, so it didn’t do as much damage as she had thought.
It didn’t matter. She still had more than enough energy to carry her on for twelve rounds.
She could still wear Tifa down!
Aqua then saw Tifa readying a left hook. Alright, Aqua thought.
I’ve seen her do this a million times.
All I need to do is time it so that I can dodge and counter her with a—
THWACK!
Tifa’s hook connected with Aqua’s right cheek
and the goddess fell straight back onto the mat.
Her mouth guard along with some blood had shot out from the blow,
and her eyes were rolled up into the back of her head.
Tifa stood still with her arm still raised from the blow as she stared
at her fallen opponent and frowned in displeasure.
The cheering spectators had grown silent,
and all three of Aqua’s cornermen either stared in disbelief or disappointment.
Even the referee stood dumbfounded for several seconds before remembering to check Aqua.
Three times her arm was lifted, and three times it fell limply to the canvas.
Tifa was declared the winner, followed by a cheer of mixed emotions from the crowd.
The only male in Aqua’s corner tossed a towel at the fallen boxer,
landing on and covering her unconscious face.
The three tried to revive her with smelling salts and the like, but to no avail.
Tifa had suspected Aqua’s proclamation of being a goddess was an exaggeration, but really?
One punch was enough to knock her out like this?
It hadn’t even been that strong of a blow!
While there had been other fighters in the event who didn’t make it past the first round
against Tifa, this had to be the shortest fight in the entire event.
It probably would have been as funny as it was disappointing for Tifa
if this had happened during one of the previous days,
but this was the final match for the event!
Was this how it was actually going to end?
After dealing with other strong fighters like Tsunade, 18, Revy, and several others?
As Aqua’s team carried her out of the ring and placed her on a gurney,
Barret climbed into the ring.
He had been acting as the announcer and commentator for her matches
and came out to address the audience. “Ladies and gentlemen,”
he said through his microphone. “As of now, every fighter who has registered for the event
has been defeated.
Since we still have a few hours before the event is officially over,
we are now welcoming anyone who wishes to face Tifa for the prize to step up now!”
This had been a backup plan in case the event ended too soon or, in this case,
ended anticlimactically.
“This is for anyone who has not registered.
If you’ve faced Tifa already, tough. No rematches.
Anyone? Anybody?” There were some murmurs in the crowd.
Tifa’s eye caught the blonde woman from Aqua’s team staring at her with eagerness.
In fact, Tifa could’ve sworn she saw some drool coming from her mouth.
The blonde woman took two steps toward her before the male and brunette team members
grabbed her and dragged her off kicking and
screaming as they pushed the gurney to the exit.
Tifa felt a little disappointed,
but she had a gut feeling that those two were doing her a favor
keeping their friend from fighting her.
Still, the disappointment from that and her victory against Aqua
were overshadowed by the disappointment of the event’s end.
Tifa had won every fight. Was undefeated.
While she should have been happy about that,
the fact it had ended on such a lackluster note soured it for her.
Not only that, but she actually had been hoping someone would win the prize.
Sure, her being undefeated in the event would help with her reputation as a boxer,
but it could also potentially hurt it since it was an event being held by her.
“Of course she won,” people would say. “It was her event.
She probably had it rigged!”
Not only that but having a customer with the discount
would have been good for the bar’s business since that would all
but guarantee a customer for life.
Sure, it ran the risk of it being some jerk who would rub their victory
and the discount into Tifa’s face every time they visited,
but Tifa was willing to take that risk since it also meant potentially
getting a friend and rival who could encourage Tifa to do better.
Plus, there was a fine print anyway where Tifa could revoke the discount
should she manage to beat them in a future rematch.
Unfortunately, no one was stepping up to the challenge now.
The audience remained with continuous murmurs,
but not a single person raised their voice.
So after a whole week of matches, this is how the Seventh Heaven Boxing Event ends?
Tifa thought. Not with a bang, but with a whimper?
Finally, someone stood up and said, “I’ll do it!”...
