Description Another search for that little place that feels real and unreal at the same time. You can find several more examples in my gallery. Normally there are symbolisms in my mind behind these concepts but, as usual, I won't talk about it and will leave it entirely to you.

As usual, this was rendered in Vue, without any photo-montage at all.

Thank you for the interest in this image. You can use it for the purpose you mention, as long as the game is not about war and does not contain gore or violence. I don't want any of my images associated with these themes.
Please do provide a link to my gallery in the footer.

I love your work, especially these kinds of images.

How long do you usually spend on something like this?

ArthurBlue In reply to godnaut [2013-08-05 21:30:42 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!
That varies a lot, depending on whether or not I can re-utilize some objects or settings I made before, for some other scene. If I have to build everything from scratch, it takes much longer. In this particular case, I re-utilized the ground cover I made for my previous image, with slight changes, so that saved some time (believe it or not, that ground cover is the single most complex thing in this scene). I made this image in around 10 hours or so, on and off over 3 or 4 days.

Thanks for the answer!

I certainly can believe that the ground cover took a long time, i am currently studying 3D art and im amazed at the amount of detail in the image.

Does VUE have its own tools to create assets, or a library of pre-made assets?

ArthurBlue In reply to godnaut [2013-08-06 07:30:15 +0000 UTC]

The amount of detail in a 3D image is pretty much limited only by the capacity of your computer and the limits of your patience.
But over-detailing is also bad, from the artistic point of view, if it becomes confusing for the viewer or if it distracts from the real concept you're trying to convey.

Vue is primarily a landscape software. So it has tools to create landscape assets, like rocks, trees, flowers, clouds, mountains, hills, lakes, oceans, forests, gardens, rain, rainbows, fog, haze, sun, moon, planets, roads, rivers, dunes, beaches, etc. But it's not a modeler - you can not push and pull polygons and its texturing capacities are very basic. But you can import models you made in other tools and have them integrated in the landscape - houses, people, etc. Vue comes already with a small library of pre-made assets and you can build your own library. Vue also comes with a library of natural assets and materials (rocks, metals, some types of trees, flowers, etc) and you can build or buy or download for free many more.

Here's a link to the free version. It's very limited, of course, but it gives you an idea of what it can do: www.e-onsoftware.com/products/…
Have fun!

I normally hate programs like Vue, Poser, Daz, etc. but you make real art with them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArthurBlue In reply to shanesemler [2013-08-05 21:39:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I know that these programs are sometimes frowned upon by professional 3D artists, that use 3DS Max or Maya or one of those high-end packages. I think some people look at these programs a bit as a professional photographer looks at a point-and-shoot camera. Well, fact is that if you know what you're doing, you can take wonderful photos with a point-and-shoot...

I think that what gives bad reputation to these programs is exactly the abuse of "point-and-shoot" at anything, by many people. Because it's easy to take a "photo", so to speak, they just do it without thinking, without heart and without art. I also hate that.

But a point-and-shoot camera, and these programs, are just tools. What matters is the person behind, not the tool itself. A fool with a tool is still a fool.
