Description
My latest map of a brave new world. Taking place in the early 20th century. Among other things:
The British managed to successfully suppress the American Rebellion, which officially ended in 1777.
Many supporters of the rebellion grew disatisified with life in North America. Eventually they decided to settle in wilderness if Southern Africa to found a society based on the principles of the rebellion. In time this new society would be known as the United States of Africa
Britain's North America posessions remained loyal to the crown and eventually was granted dominion status as the Dominion of North America.
Britian abolished slavery in 1833, but many in southern North America didn't take this well and moved to the United States of Africa. The USA still technically allowed slavery for quite some time, but racial blending soon complicated things to the point that slavery would be abolished in 1878. Increased racial mixing would also lead to a breakdown of the long standing social hierarchy.
Though the rebellion failed its spirit and ideas proved rather influential. This lead to a revolution in France. Unlike in our world this French Revolution proved a bit more stable, but some of the stranger aspects, such as the cult of the supream being and the revolutionary calendar, managed to survive.
Similarly, Mexico eventually threw off the yoke of the Spanish Empire and gained independence. However, the Mexicans decided there was a need for strong leadership in the turmoil following independance. They became a monarchy, albeit a constitutional one.
Brazil also opted to become a monarchy after gaining independance from Portugal. They also proved a bit more successful in terms if expansion
Mexico went to war with Spain once again to spread revolution to Spanish possessions in the Carribean and Pacific. Mexico expanded its empire and bring the ideals of revolution to other Spanish colonies. Mexico also encouraged Japan to end their isolation and open up to the world, and Japan has been partitioning Mexico to sell them the Philippines.
The Dominion North America, the United States of Africa, the empires of Mexico and Brazil are popular destinations for immigrants from across the world.
China has over thrown the Manchu and established a new native dynasty under the Zhang, and modernized much earlier than in our world.
Vietnam had been divided into a Chinese north and a French south. Eventually the overthrew their rulers and established a new nation that would never again be ruled by a foreign power
Germany took advantage of instabilities in Venezuela to secure a foothold in the New World
Demark and Italy have been a bit more successful with colonies. Italy received Austro-Hungarian support in their campaign against Ethiopia, it still failed, and secured Austria-Hungry the position of laughing stock of Europe. Meanwhile, the Nordic nations have moved closer together and their is talk of a possible union of between Denmark and Sweden.
That's everything off the top of my head, feel free to ask any questions
