Description I almost like the Thorin from Hobbit the movie, but he could be perfect if just he was older and heavily bearded (he's a Longbeard you know). So this is my vision of a more apt Thorin. The smaller ones are visual notes ( not an actual design) of the Dwarven clans as depicted by master Tolkien.
I wanted to make each tribe somewhat resemble a real-world culture, as a start point. You see some Celts, Inuit, Mongol, Viking, Germanic and even Babilonic influence on those.

This is really nice.Β  Would have also liked to have a bearded Thorin in the movies.

Your thorin is the way he should have looked in the movie but they made thorin look like that in the movie to give him an Hollywood sex appeal.

Thanks. I am not fond of the idea of sex appealing dwarves. Just gross.

Heck, I've given a swing at all but longbeards (how the film showed them is pretty much my mental image) check them out some time mate!

You see, I am the founder of a rather large Dwarf kinship on Lord of the Rings Online, and we often delve into dwarf culture VERY DEEP on our forum/kin page. And we keep wondering...WHAT do the other houses look like?

PLEASE! Please make more art in this manner! Nobody EVER makes art out of the other houses save Firebeards and Longbeards!

Sure! Dwarves don't get the attention they deserve. I'm really fascinated by tolkien dwarves, it's a pitty he told so little about them. I,m expanding the concepts, you was the motivation I needed, thank you sir! I'll post something today.

yes this is a BIG step in the right direction. it amazing how much more dwarvishness you can invest in his appearance just with a big, voluminous beard. though thorin in the film was younger (and handsomer) than i'd pictured, they did give him a very noble forehead/nose configuration. the only remaining improvement i could think of would be a wider lower face. PJ stated that they purposely didnt use extensive cheek prosthetics like they did with gimli, because it would take too much time to apply, and would hide the actors facial expressions. they really fucked up on that call I think, as the wider heavier foreheads and noses but narrow cheeks sometimes made them look like they had thyroid problems. (nice scar over the eye too)
the little studies of the seven hoses are also good, I'd like to see them in greater detail. I especially like the firebeards and the broadbeams (that blacklock is also waay cool, i can imagine them as traders down in harad or khand)

You are right again! The narrow jaw certainly do not make a good dwarf. But what really upset me is the absence of proper beards. I think I like Snow White and Hunter Dwarves more then the Hobbit ones.
Thanks for the comment on my Dwarven clans, I'lll be working on them today.
Really cool, the blacklocks trading in harad and khand. If I'm not wrong I think Tolkien wrote somewhere that they lived near(or in) mordor mountains range.
They have the potential to be one of the most unconventional and interesting clans.

snow white and the huntsman had an interesting strategy for dwarves, take a bunch of hearty british character actors and digitally paste their heads on to the bodies of real dwarfs (for the full body shots anyway)
sounds good, I cant wait to see some more of those guys, Tolkien remarks in the hobbit that some dwarves (though usually not durin's folk) are "pretty bad sorts" and have dealings with orcs. I'd love to see that.

I never knew the made it that way! Nice to know!Β

Indeed theΒ snow white and the huntsman dwarves fit perfectly on the petty dwarves concept. As always you have a gift forΒ associatingΒ things and giving examples! Very nice Turner!

thanks, and yeah i think that'd be a great formula for the rather stunted (even by "naugrim" standards) petty dwarves.
