Yes, His character was quite awesome. Defied "fate" to help his friends and in doing so endured a lot of pain and sacrifice in doing so.

That's my favorite part when Rell comes riding up at the last minute...I was always kinda disappointed that his ultimate fate was basically to hold the door open for the others.
