Trick or Treat
by ~belisarius2930
Like the leaves of the old crooked maple,
the costumed children descended upon the house's porch,
eager for the promise of the night's sweet staple,
to gather by the low glow of the Jack O'Lantern's torch.
While nestled upon the many gourds carve'd,
-in a milky dream, slumbered the old black cat,
oblivious to the greedy gullets of the candy starve'd
trick o' treaters who crowded about the door's mat.
Ringing frantically upon the door bell's button,
while shifting nervously in their masks
awaiting the offer of candy apple's on which to glutton,
and the house owner to perform this night's appointed task.
"Trick or Treat!" ,screeched the dressed up childish pair,
as the dark house's massive door swung ajar,
while they waited with breaths baited in the night's chill air,
as something moved within from shadows as black as tar.
Then came an Old Witch, who filled their up-held bags,
whilst they quivered like the wind blown leaves upon the oak,
distrustful of the gift of this old wicked hag,
who filled their swelling sacks as she cronishly spoke.
"Here be some eye of newt and a handful of worms for thee".
But as the worms did squirm and the eye did ooze,
the costumed kids did leave that witch's porch and flee,
taking to their heels with not a second to lose.
And as the door slowly shut and the pumpkin's light fluttered,
the old cat lazily stirred and opened its eyes,
... lingering was the echoing cackle the Witch had uttered,
at her fiendish joy in the children's surprise.
Happy Halloween!

Beautiful! I always love your detail work (the fur on the pussycat! ^^ ) and the first thing I thought when I saw this was 'straight out of a storybook'. I love it!

I certainly hope so. I have it planned out in my head...but yeah, no inspiration to write it...or to segway points in my head to writing a longer story.

I love the subtle transitions, and the whole piece. The cat's fur and the pumpkins came out very well. If this is the final version I should rework that poem I made.

It sounds like a good idea to use photoshop, and I will fave this when you have finished with it.
Thanks for your compliments, and I would never tell a story if I didn't have a great little muse. [link]

I have this movie, I love it and the ride.
Did you know that they are going to re-make this movie. I might have told you this before, they are getting the guy that did Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy movies and make it a bit more scarier and creepy, like how the ride is. Don't get me wrong I love watching this movie and Eddie Murphy, but this movie seems that Disney was playing it safe, after releasing in that same year Pirates of the Caribbean.
Sleep Well, have wonderful dreams that take you away, but return you safely home. So that you can tell the tales of mystical creatures and fantasy worlds, that can only be told well by a great storyteller like yourself. Not much of a poem, but a little story I just came up with, just for you. Good night My Angel of Art

Thanks for the links, I love hearing ghost stories, I am enjoying listening to the story and song from the Haunted Mansion. I never heard this before, its so cool and put you in the Halloween mood.
I remember when I was in elementary school, around Halloween time, our library teacher would gather us around and read ghost stories. It has been awhile since i heard some ghost stories. Sometimes I listen to The Red Death from time to time
Have a good day

There is nothing like good childhood memories. I can remember our librarian reading us stories, but I am not sure if I recall her reading Halloween stories. I do remember a cool poster for a book with kids in Halloween costumes hanging from a hang-glider (or something like that). It might have been for Ray Bradbury's 'The Halloween Tree'.

Speaking of stories (this is not related to Halloween), I just found an old muppet movie that I use to watch so much as a kid. So far it found out that it has not been made to dvd, i hope they do. Back when I was little my best friend had this video and every we played at her house, I would asked if we can watch this movie (even then I loved the muppets. Who doesn't). The movie is called Muppet Classic Theater.

Do you have any more Halloween stories/link

yeah you sent me this link, I like this cartoon. I am surprised that I never heard of this back when I was a kid. I think I remember seeing the cover art of the movie somewhere, but never thought of watching it. Thanks for the links
Good Night my Angel of Art
Rest your wings so by tomorrows morning light, you spread your wings and soar into the sky. As you glide in the sky, you spread your magic of light, shining down at us. Making each and everyone of us shine as the person we are to be. Brightening the world and vanishing our darkest fears. Continue to soar and spread your powerful words of faith, encouragement, and care for others.
I hope you like my little story, I just came up with this. As of right now, all I can give back to you is little samples of my own writing of stories and poems for you. As how you have given so much to me. I wish I could do more for you, you deserve so much more. Good Night
