Description Here is my finish version of my Halloween Illustration. My teacher said that their is some fun stuff going on in this illustration, but he would like it to be darker. Like putting in some blue in this background and that way, it will make the pumpkins pop more. I think I will do that in Photoshop or Corel Painter. I don't want to damage this one, after I work so hard on it. And I was actually happy with how it turned out, I think I am getting better with working in watercolors.

Trick or Treat
by ~belisarius2930

Like the leaves of the old crooked maple,
the costumed children descended upon the house's porch,
eager for the promise of the night's sweet staple,
to gather by the low glow of the Jack O'Lantern's torch.

While nestled upon the many gourds carve'd,
-in a milky dream, slumbered the old black cat,
oblivious to the greedy gullets of the candy starve'd
trick o' treaters who crowded about the door's mat.

Ringing frantically upon the door bell's button,
while shifting nervously in their masks
awaiting the offer of candy apple's on which to glutton,
and the house owner to perform this night's appointed task.

"Trick or Treat!" ,screeched the dressed up childish pair,
as the dark house's massive door swung ajar,
while they waited with breaths baited in the night's chill air,
as something moved within from shadows as black as tar.

Then came an Old Witch, who filled their up-held bags,
whilst they quivered like the wind blown leaves upon the oak,
distrustful of the gift of this old wicked hag,
who filled their swelling sacks as she cronishly spoke.

"Here be some eye of newt and a handful of worms for thee".
But as the worms did squirm and the eye did ooze,
the costumed kids did leave that witch's porch and flee,
taking to their heels with not a second to lose.

And as the door slowly shut and the pumpkin's light fluttered,
the old cat lazily stirred and opened its eyes,
... lingering was the echoing cackle the Witch had uttered,
at her fiendish joy in the children's surprise.

Happy Halloween!

I love the subtle transitions, and the whole piece. The cat's fur and the pumpkins came out very well. If this is the final version I should rework that poem I made.

Thanks. You don't have to rework your poem you made last time (I love it). But if you do, I am curious as to how you will tell the story this time.

I would just try to improve it a little. Your picture is too nice for a mean witch. XD I hope all is well. I want to make a little project, and write (possibly) 2 poems about Halloween before Halloween arrives. [link] Have a good day today.

Artlyss In reply to SylvanSmith [2011-10-21 13:40:27 +0000 UTC]

The changes I will be making won't be that big and it is not going to effect the original painting. I Need to make it darker, a night scene and have the pumpkins glow more. So I' doing that part on Photoshop, that way I won't damage the original.

Have a good day and I look forward to your projects and your next poem. You are a great storyteller

I have this movie, I love it and the ride.

Did you know that they are going to re-make this movie. I might have told you this before, they are getting the guy that did Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy movies and make it a bit more scarier and creepy, like how the ride is. Don't get me wrong I love watching this movie and Eddie Murphy, but this movie seems that Disney was playing it safe, after releasing in that same year Pirates of the Caribbean.

Sleep Well, have wonderful dreams that take you away, but return you safely home. So that you can tell the tales of mystical creatures and fantasy worlds, that can only be told well by a great storyteller like yourself. Not much of a poem, but a little story I just came up with, just for you. Good night My Angel of Art

Now that you mention it, I do recall that you had this movie, and you said that there was a remake on the way. The only thing I remember about the ride was the picture room (when the wall rolls down and revealing the longer paintings and how everyone died). [link] Here is the old audio record that I used to listen to as a kid (when they still had old record players. The art inside that record was so inspiring, I would stare at it for hours. Records used to be full of art, and it was a big deal. Here is another spooky story I listened to as a kid. [link] The cover art shown in the vid used to chill me.
I always like your writing and prose. After I finish the Greenman, I will revise and finish your story. Have a good day today

Thanks for the links, I love hearing ghost stories, I am enjoying listening to the story and song from the Haunted Mansion. I never heard this before, its so cool and put you in the Halloween mood.

I remember when I was in elementary school, around Halloween time, our library teacher would gather us around and read ghost stories. It has been awhile since i heard some ghost stories. Sometimes I listen to The Red Death from time to time
Have a good day

There is nothing like good childhood memories. I can remember our librarian reading us stories, but I am not sure if I recall her reading Halloween stories. I do remember a cool poster for a book with kids in Halloween costumes hanging from a hang-glider (or something like that). It might have been for Ray Bradbury's 'The Halloween Tree'.

Speaking of stories (this is not related to Halloween), I just found an old muppet movie that I use to watch so much as a kid. So far it found out that it has not been made to dvd, i hope they do. Back when I was little my best friend had this video and every we played at her house, I would asked if we can watch this movie (even then I loved the muppets. Who doesn't). The movie is called Muppet Classic Theater.

Do you have any more Halloween stories/link

I liked the three little piggies. I probably saw that as a kid- as I watched all of the Muppet shows religiously.
Your childhood memories are adorable. I do not look back much myself.
[link] Here is something I might have sent before. I was looking for the Tales From The Darkside 'Trick or Treat' episode, but they must have taken it down. I'll send links til Halloween. You don't have to watch them, but if you have the time you might enjoy them. Sleep tight my little muse.

Good Night my Angel of Art
Rest your wings so by tomorrows morning light, you spread your wings and soar into the sky. As you glide in the sky, you spread your magic of light, shining down at us. Making each and everyone of us shine as the person we are to be. Brightening the world and vanishing our darkest fears. Continue to soar and spread your powerful words of faith, encouragement, and care for others.

I hope you like my little story, I just came up with this. As of right now, all I can give back to you is little samples of my own writing of stories and poems for you. As how you have given so much to me. I wish I could do more for you, you deserve so much more. Good Night

Wings are nothing without a wind to carry one aloft.
We all have wings. Your words are heartwarming, but I am unworthy of the credit. May I one day become worthy of your beautiful words.
I watched the director's cut of Legend last night. I still prefer the 80's soundtrack, but the director's cut is edited better in some ways. I love the set design of that movie.

You are more than worthy, you deserve the credit.

If I didn't have a great friend like you to talk to, to share my thoughts and dreams to. I might not have gotten back the power to believe in myself and my work. You helped my to remember to have faith in myself. For a while I thought I lost it, because i thought not many people had faith in me (I mean I didn't see it in their eyes). But I can tell through your words that you care. , and you care enough that you always help me out. Getting to know you, from the beginning to now, is the best thing that has happen to me. And I hope I have helped you out, as much as you did for me.http:
