Welcome to Heaven's Gate, the last stronghold of the old world civilization of man.

Far out in the dry desert land is a place said to be safe from the horrors of the outside world. Where you can live comfortably without worry... but if human history has taught us anything it's that promises are hardly ever kept. True, this place is safe due to it's geographic isolation. However, the "living comfortably" really only applies for those who are descended from wealthy and upper class folk while outside the perimeter are where everyone else lives: the slums.

In this "utopia" in the desert everyone is unknowing of the new changes the outside world has gone through, only remembering that the bombs had dropped and destroyed everything and horrid mutants rose in it's wake. Being nothing but a lingering memory to them. The intention of this resthold was to be only temporary and meant to preserve civilization and to eventually restart it once things had cooled down (figuratively speaking of course, not literal. That's for another day). As you can see, that wasn't the case. These plans were seen as less important and eventually cancelled entirely so to maintain a stronghold of this "utopia". Scouts and retrievers are sworn to keep whatever they see or find confidential those down in the lower hanging branch of this society. Keeping them ignorant and stomp out any possible curiosity to leave and possible start their own society elsewhere.

The upper class all live in "the castle" of this kingdom, living the extravagant, gluttonous, and convenient life. Free of worry or concern, ignorant to the harsh outside world. Occasionally they'll throw a bone for those below w/ a large celebration of the founding of Heaven's Gate, but not out of kindness, more to keep the lower class citizens from starting an uprising. It being more of the equivalent of throwing french fries for hungry seagulls. Down in the slums, it's a tough life for all and most go starving for days before even finding anything to eat again if one is even lucky. Crowded, filthy and overall a bad living situation. That's just everyday life for them and can't really argue w/ it due to the lack of options. Only one surefire way to even get close to living the high life would be to become a servant for those over the divider.

With the increase in ocean levels and more intense water cycle/rainfall that has led to the steady increase of the river the dam blocks transforming it into a massive lake. Spilling over the edge and around the corners as you can see. Sooner or later, the ancient structure will eventually give and rupture from the water build up and take out whatever is within it's path a.k.a. Heaven's Gate.
