Description Yet another picture of the Brainstars from my Priapus Prime Project . This guy is the captain of an exploration vessel, but despite his dramatic pose it's not really as action-packed as you might at first think. They don't explore space the same way humans do, and the design of their spacecraft is radically different. Although they are capable of superluminal velocities, they can only send out robotic probes and explore the universe via telemetry and photographs.

The suit you see here is capable of protecting someone from the void of space... For about an hour. It's really more of a uniform, a secondary suit is worn over it for long ventures into space, one that is bulkier and more difficult to move in. The uniform is made of a porous material, and when its sensors detect conditions of high radiation and low atmospheric pressure (you know, like in space?) it closes off all the pores and vaporizes highly condensed liquid atmosphere, instantly pressurizing the suit.

The material the suit is made of also reacts with the specific frequency at which all Brainstar's biolights glow, becoming opaque to allow the light through. It also produces a thick black border around the biolights, to help distinguish them from the rest of the suit. The membrane over the eyes is very flexible and rubbery, and expands over the eye stalk as it pushes into it. When the eye stalk retracts, the membrane contracts to its original size and shape. It acts kind of like a one-way mirror, polarizing to prevent dangerous radiation from damaging the eye but allowing visible light to pass through to retain vision.

EDIT: He isn't holding a weapon, by the way. It's more of a plasma cutter for working on inhabited space stations around the Priapus star system.

Cool alien! I'm glad you branched out from the old humanoid routine. I have a couple aliens I have been working on that probably have similar evolutionary histories to this one: ([link] ), ([link] )

I don't really see the resemblance to Elder Things .

Elder Things are radially built with five sides; that's where my idea of their resemblance came in. They are otherwise quite dissimilar.

I don't know if I would call Elder Things radially symmetrical, since they do have those wings. But I guess all things considered, yea they do have a bit of a resemblance.
