I like this, but the French is slightly off.
When referring to a boy "my little one" is "mon petit". When referring to a girl it's "ma petite".

No no. Its a simple mistake when your Mother Tongue doesn't have gender specific spelling for words. No French speaker could fail to understand and anyone who isn't wouldn't have noticed.
