Description I am so glad I decided to postpone the graphic novel back in 2010.  What was I thinking with that  old armor lol.

Vale is part of the Eon Graphic Novel (work in progress) . Outfit is designed  by me. Character is owned by one of my co-authors: Ixael.

Here's the 2010 Deviation:

Yes it does. Good to see you btw. What have you been up to these days? I saw you released Rising Legends game but the link doesn't seem to be working.

Well, mostly working on my game. And college.

Got my first convention coming up to show off the project! Going to be very exciting.
Have some nice banners ready to go: img06.deviantart.net/8368/i/20…

What you could see on Steam (if you had a chance to look it up) is progress I made after a year. Got a lot further now thought.
Here's the Steam link that should be working: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles…

What have you been up to?

Oh wow those banners look awesome! And I love the old school feel of the game. I am very excited for you! My husband is into game development as well but he's focusing on mobile right now. What did you use to make the sprites?

Well, in the last few years, I have just been focusing on improving my drawing and doing commissions. I have maybe a total of 6 months to a year and half hiatus between 2010 and 2017. Right now, I am more focused on my guild's graphic novel as I want the first chapter completed next year.

Although I design all the characters and animations, I hire someone to do the actual pixel art for me. There are some helpful sprite animation programs around but don't have much experience to tell you which ones I would recommend. But sometimes I make some pixel things in Photoshop!

Nice to see my Kimi that started out on the GWGuru forums turn into this!

Awesome to hear about the novel, I remember seeing somewhere you've been wanting to do it for quite a while! How's the progress going?

Haha yeah , I recognized Kimi from the steam video. I thought how awesome it must be to finally have her in your game! I can relate because I have the same dreams for the characters in my graphic novel where they all started out as GW1 RP characters (mine and guildies).

Progress has been good but a bit slow. We want to make it as close to 'perfect' as possible. I am currently re-designing characters (as you can see from the art on this comment thread lol) and re-writing the story at the same time. I am fairly limited by my abilities and it doesn't help that I tend to be a perfectionist >_< But overall it's been good and exciting. I can't wait to get started on actual pages again.

It's crazy and I'll be honest, I kinda miss hanging out on the GWGuru forums at the art corner! It's very cool seeing people growing over the years and achieving things or are on their way to.

For me personally I really feel like I am breaking my own limits, while I do the game design and programming, I also do character design, story, animations, environmental design. Just to think it was just Kimi being my old GW1 Assassin now plays in a universe of over 50 designed characters!

I know that besides you, Murke also draws the characters, right? And do you do the character design by yourself or together with who's OC that is? And where do you feel you are struggling?

Wow that's a lot of tasks for you to do. I am pretty much doing the same thing as I have to replace all the Guild Wars references from  our story. I do the character designs and artworks by myself for now. The writing is being done by me while consulting with a couple of my guild mates who were also there from the beginning. I am just struggling with writing mostly since I am not very well versed with that. I have the story in mind but to translate it to the right words usually don't come naturally (English is my second language). Add to that, I have to learn environments and action poses as well (nothing new lol. I always needed to learn those). I think balancing patience and my excitement to see a tangible product is where I am struggling right now. I want the comic to be the best it can be but I also want to see results sooner than later.  That's why I thought you must be really ecstatic to see all this hard work come into fruition on your side. I can't wait for mine

And yeah I agree with you about seeing the Nolani folks grow over the years. Charlie and Eastern Magik have really come a long way here in DA as well. I am having a hard time keeping up with my watch updates so I am probably missing a lot more news from my friends here in DA and Nolani.

Oh, I sure know how you feel about writing. In your head it's like this great thing but when you have to describe it's like "well, uh.."

Do you know start of with a general story about certain things and then flesh it out and making connections? Or do you immediately go all-in into things piece by piece? Personally whenever I think of something I note it down somewhere as it often comes of use later on, it helps me a lot. I think documenting things helps out a ton as well. Might not be so exciting at some point but being able to look back at certain things is great!

Action poses are quite a challenge for me as well, especially when you want the characters to have animations! I kinda look at how characters from other games fight, then I record what moves I like and cut out which frames that make the animation look smooth. For example, Aimi (the one with the daggers) has a couple of animations that I took out of GW2! Eventually when all the pieces fit together you'll feel satisfied and think "Yep, that's her!" or him.

Only Nolani contacts I have left are you, Murke, Charlie, Magik and Trish (the one who draws cute chibis, you'll know who!). Too bad they locked GW1Guru from posting on it any longer, can't even log in anymore to retrieve some art pieces that I still had links to in personal messages...

haha that's exactly what it sounds like in my head! I just can't put the right  words to describe it. We have fleshed out the  outline of the  plot , just doing the scripts and actual dialogue right now.  So basically I work from the overall story then start going through the details ie dialogue. It's amazing how things can still change even at the scripting change. But we have a general guide on what should happen as the story is all based from our old RPs.

That's a very clever way of researching. I just can't wrap my head around actually animating it when I have a hard time drawing the still pose as it is!

I did try to look for the guru forums and you're right, it's gone

Well, as you make progress on things there is always trial and error. Sometimes you have a cool new idea but doesn't work out in the end, or you can somehow implement something new into what you already have. Sounds like you are making some good progress. I am still working on writing some short stories about different groups of people in the universe for my website. Kinda struggling with the writing!

Had to look up some tutorials on Youtube to see what key animation frames are being used in cartoons, helped me out a lot I can actually see the patterns everywhere now. For other animations like attack moves there is a build-up, the force (when you are striking) and the recovery frames. Maybe if you are ever looking for some action poses maybe I can actually help!

Didn't notice the guru forum is completely gone now, it was in an archive state the last time I looked!
