Yes I'm quite pleased that it worked out that way!

I have no idea if this was intential or not, but the way the brim of his hat meets up with the staff almost makes it look like a scythe. Whether on purpose or not, I think it's kind of a cool effect, considering he's the villain. Anyway, good luck with your writing!

Gaah I have an un-natural obsession with plague times... perhaps because I died of it in a previous life
Anyway, I Looovveee this picture. It's like omg. yay.
Specially the colouring (cross hatch?)
It's my favourite, I want to be able to do that...
ALSO.
My friend is also doing NaNoWriMo - I'm in it as the dead person.
Hers is about quantity, not quality.

Wow, glad you like it so much! The shading is not quite cross hatching, though it is done with little lines.
Hey, NaNo's always about quantity over quality! Quality can come later, in the rewrite...

Plague Doctors have the coolest, creepiest look ever, I must agree. If one tried to treat me I'd probably run away in fear or something.
I love the details on the mask. Very nice work!

The plague doctor....I have always seen those masks and built one and wear it quite often...
Until my "friend" broke it -_- why do they wear the masks anyway?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Artoveli In reply to CarmenStorm [2007-11-17 19:31:50 +0000 UTC]
They wore it to protect themselves against the black plague (they didn't actually know what was causing the plague, but this seemed like it would help. And it actually did, a bit). The beak part was always filled with flower petals and spices and incense, which they hoped would purify the air they were breathing. They also wore crystal goggles or had crystals as the eyes in the mask so that their real eyes were also protected.

The real Plague Doctors wore crystal goggles to protect their eyes from the plague. So yes!

It's a comedy (tried doing something predominantly serious last year... it wasn't pretty). And instead of doing a quest story like I did last year, I'm putting all my characters in one place this time and bringing the weird stuff to them.
I'm taking a literal understanding of the term "Lost Lenore" (you know, from Poe's The Raven?). She isn't dead, she's just really, really, rediculously lost! So the story is about the strange happenings at the manor house where she ended up after becoming lost. Characters include Lenore, the quirky household staff, Archer the seven foot tall statue, and Edgar the young wastril who lives next door. It leaves me increadibly free to make whatever I want happen! Only thing is, there's not much of a plot....
One of the people to have recently entered the story is this Plague Doctor fellow.

Nylaba same as here. I don't seem to have much imagination when it comes to screen names.

23,405 today. Haven't written yet, I don't know what to do with Plague Doctor now that he's arrived at Nevermore House...
Hey, it's a start! My Dad's way behind, not up to five thousand yet, but he hasn't given up yet! You could still do this thing!
