Description Remember the road trip meme from my (and several other people's) journal? Well, here I've gone and drawn pictures for a non-drawing meme. It just filled my head with such entertaining pictures of my characters, I had to put them on paper!

I didn't draw things for all the questions, and I added one or two things, but here it is anyway, some snapshots from the road trip I took with ten of my characters recently. Enjoy!

For reference, I'll repost the meme here:

"The story so far...
You've somehow acquired a magical dimension-splicing conversion van and are planning an epic cross-country road trip with your friends and fandom. First, pick ten travel buddies from anywhere - real life, fiction, OCs, celebrities, whatever. Then answer these questions to see how cracktastic your adventure turns out to be."

0. Artoveli

1. Cyan [link]
2. Felix [link]
3. Plague Doctor [link]
4. Oleander [link]
5. Lenore [link]
6. Monroe (no picture)
7. The Goat-eyed Man [link]
8. Edgar [link]
9. Flying Robert [link]
10. Juniper Salad (no picture)

1. The GPS has an obnoxious voice. What does 9 (Flying Robert) name it, & is 7 (The Goat-eyed man) bothered by it?

Robert calls it Herr Schnabel, after one of his old teachers at the orphanage. And yes, the Goat-eyed man is extremely annoyed with the GPS voice, and sees fit to air his annoyance every time it says anything.

2. 8(Edgar), 4(Oleander), 6(Monroe), and 1(Cyan) are all forced to share the cramped back row of seats. How do they arrange themselves?
Well, everyone knows that they only put rows of three seats in vans, so everyone squishes and Edgar and Cyan have to share a seatbelt cause they’re the smallest. Edgar argues that Oleander’s wings are taking up too much room, so Oleander tries to lift them above the seat but Cyan warns him that Artoveli won’t be able to see out the back window if he does that. Everyone in that row is getting rather testy, except for Monroe, who’s just so glad to be in a van again after so much time in the 1800s that he doesn’t even notice the squishing and is just gazing out the window and uttering the occasional sigh of contentment.

3. 5(Lenore) & 10(Juniper Salad) are sitting next to each other. Who gets the window seat?
Lenore wants the window seat of course, but Juniper is liable to throw an unpleasant tantrum if she doesn’t get it. So Lenore gives the window seat to her and instead entertains herself by continuously pestering Juniper to wear her seatbelt.

4. 3(Plague Doctor) & 4(Oleander) are invading each other's personal space. Who gets annoyed first & how do they deal with it?
Okay, so the row with the four previously-mentioned characters is in the middle of the extremely large van, and Oleander’s seat is right in front of Plague Doctor. Oleander, not being able to fold his wings behind him because of Edgar, has them draped over the back of the seat and they’re brushing Plague Doctor’s knees. Plague Doctor hates to be touched, so he tries to move his knees out of the way, but he’s also squished in with three other people so he can’t really move very much. Finally he gets really frustrated and shoves Oleander’s wings up over the seat again. Oleander turns around and asks what His problem is. Plague Doctor shoves him again and Oleander whacks him in the arm. Those sitting around them start to raise their voices in protest and finally I have to shout ”GET ALONG OR GET TAPS!” which settles it nicely.

5. What habit does 8(Edgar) have that might get on 2(Felix)'s nerves?

Felix happens to look over from his seat between Plague Doctor and the window, and sees Edgar picking at his fingernails. He shudders and looks out the window again, trying to think of something else.
6. Who's more likely to start up a round of "99 Bottles", 1(Cyan) or 7(The Goat-eyed man)?
The Goat-eyed man, who shouldn’t even know that song. But he only does it to be evil, plus he interrupts himself every time Herr Schnabel says anything.

7. Would you trust 9 (Flying Robert) or 10 (Juniper Salad) to get behind the wheel for a while?
Uhmmm… Flying Robert isn’t used to steering, just sitting in his vehicle. While he’s a nicer person, Juniper probably does know how to drive. Then again, there’s no way she’d take directions from anyone but herself, so the situation could get sticky if/when we came to one of those notorious exit ramps…

8. You stop at a gas station & 5(Lenore) & 3(Plague Doctor) make a snack-and-supply run. What do they bring back?

Plague Doctor buys sugary junk, but has to eat his share as quickly as possible in the gas station bathroom (shudder) so that no one will see him without his mask on. Three unappetizing minutes later he rejoins the rest of the group to see that Lenore’s bought salty junk and a few large bottles of water. He makes fun of her for buying water, but then spends the rest of the trip suffering as he watches them drink.

9. 6 (Monroe) and 8 (Edgar) brought CD's. What's on their playlist?
Monroe went crazy with nostalgia and made a mix tape of The Beatles, Savage Garden, Britney Spears, and several 80s cartoon intros. Edgar’s CD was a collection of late 1800s-early 1900s popular club songs, such as “47 Ginger-Headed Sailors” and “Lady of Spain.” They hate each other’s music.

10. Who's the more notorious backseat driver, 2 (Felix) or 10 (Juniper Salad)?
Felix, not a driver himself, is only vaguely aware of the fact that someone is driving. He generally just stares out the window daydreaming until someone in the van (usually Plague Doctor or the Goat-eyed man) does something requiring comment. Juniper on the other hand is an extremely jumpy passenger. I’m not even sure why she decided to come with us, though I suspect it had something to do with the fact that Felix was coming too.

The end!

You sure did! (sorry about the late reply)

It's not my meme, but I hope you enjoyed filling it out anyway!

Actually, this was done with a regular ballpoint pen. I've never paid much attention to what pencils I use, when I use them. Sorry, I know that's not incredibly helpful!

This cracks me up. Plague Doctor might be my new favourite of your charries though they are all ridiculously awesome. (I have to confess, the Goat-eyed man is a tad freaky though. His eyes scare me. )

Well, you do have nerves of steel for ever undertaking such a trip!
Original meme, priceless take on it!
The pics feel just like photos, they make one wish they had been there too (yeah, I know, one would also need nerves of steel for that)...

I adore Oleander...

Oleander! Glad to hear you remember him.

I almost want to continue this now though, to find out where we were going. I really don't have time for it though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Faeliscity In reply to Artoveli [2009-03-06 13:11:16 +0000 UTC]

I could hardly remember him, since I don't know him to begin with (only saw him here and there in your gallery)... but I cannot help being fond of him, since I adore owls.
Is he an OC?

Pity you have no time to continue this, I agree... but indeed, it looks like it might take humongous proportions if you tried to!
Bah, you can always imagine...

Artoveli In reply to Faeliscity [2009-03-06 14:16:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, he was from my first NaNo novel, which was a dramatic retelling of "The Owl and the Pussy-Cat" as a swashbuckling adventure on the high seas.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Faeliscity In reply to Artoveli [2009-03-06 15:56:39 +0000 UTC]

Whoa!
Sounds like something... Swashbuckling owl overseas...

Spaking of Na-No, I have a question... are those stories available for reading? Like, could I find Lost Lenore (or this year's stories from your siblings) on the Na-No website and read it, for instance?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artoveli In reply to Faeliscity [2009-03-06 18:17:58 +0000 UTC]

No, all you do is upload the text document of your manuscript during the month so that it calculates your word count, but it deletes it right away so no one else can read it. BUT, there is a section on each writer's page where they can put up an excerpt of their book! Only the current book though. If you go to [link] and do an author search for "Artoveli" you'll find a bit of Felix's story. Ridel's also got an excerpt up, and her story was once again awesomely amazing.

Faeliscity In reply to Artoveli [2009-03-07 09:44:15 +0000 UTC]

Right - thank you!
Yes, I can believe it was... Same for Kingjing's.
That is in part why I wondered whether we'd ever get a chance to read those stories in whole.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artoveli In reply to Faeliscity [2009-03-07 19:01:27 +0000 UTC]

Start badgering them! Maybe if enough people do, they'll finish their stories up and release them to the world!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Faeliscity In reply to Artoveli [2009-03-09 14:43:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh - those stories are not finished? I hadn't realised...

lol! I would, but there is, alas, the oh-so-little chance that I might just piss them off and disgust them from ever writing again... (same for you and your works, miss ) ...that would be quite a shame!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artoveli In reply to Faeliscity [2009-03-09 20:01:43 +0000 UTC]

Naw, they'd take such badgering as an extreme compliment. Anyway, they know they'd be guilted and teased all over the house if they decided not to join the rest of us in NaNo this year, so I wouldn't worry.

LMAO! I always tell my family about my steel bladder. It only really turns into steel when we're on road trips...I can go for about 3 1/4 hour, tops. They look at me like I'm the pee-hoarder. It's hilarious. I'm proud of you, Cyan! XP

Also...is that the Plague Doctor sneaking treats in the bathroom? I didn't think he actually spoke

Yup, Plague Doctor definitely speaks. That's him in the bathroom.

I always thought the Plague Doctor was mute! I'm glad you have cleared this up for me. Does he have a very sweet voice? Somehow, I can imagine him with a soft-toned voice...mostly because creepy guys with sweet, soft voices make them even more creepy.

Why is that, anyway?
