Description Edward Lear wrote a poem about The Jumblies, with their sky-blue hands and sea-green heads ( [link] ). Over a hundred years later, Artoveli wrote a very messy month-long novel about these same Jumblies. One of these characters was Luxor, a Jumbly girl with a fairly tragic past.

This picture is me trying to develop a look and feel for the Jumbly culture. But I continue to tweak. A lot of things about my manuscript need to be overhauled.

You can see a less dramatically shaded version in my scraps -> [link]

I luuuuuuuuuuhrve the lighting and the shading and everything in this--it's so dark and mysterious!

Interesting idea for a novel, by the way...

Thanks so much! The shading wasn't that hard to do really, just a matter of two colors and a fancy brush.

VeniceGirl In reply to Artoveli [2007-09-30 21:23:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, not everyone can do that, even with a fancy brush. You've got skills.
You're welcome!

Woo, thanks! I think it's probably the dramatic shading talking though.

I don't know. She just looks so elegant! and kind of lonley.

This prolly sounds wierd, but the shading looks like strands of hair O_O it's a really neat affect!

You know, I think the brush (in Photoshop) was a hair clipping. Kudos for noticing!

Artoveli In reply to KatyGraham [2007-09-20 01:49:42 +0000 UTC]

Hm, didn't you ask about that before? Or was that someone else...

Anyway, thanks for your interest! But I'm not letting anyone read it yet. Luxor was a side character though, to the main story which was a retelling of The Owl and the Pussy-Cat.

wow! I'm impressed by the warmth of this background! this girl has so much character in her expression and posture, and just in one picture! i know, i might be reading too much into things, but it's a delightful piece!

Artoveli In reply to igcreator [2007-09-20 01:52:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I don't think I quite pulled off the look I was hoping for, but I still like these results. Incidentally, she came across completely flat in my manuscript, so I'm trying to work out her character a bit through some art.
