Description This is my first gem (Or cubic zirconia) setting. I'm very pleased with the outcome and hope to do more in the future. It's also my first rolled bezel... which is probably the only way I'll go on from now on. It's nice to have that control. The stone below is pyrite. I cute, shaped, sanded, and polished it myself. The metal is silver... and yes, that's my design too A fun piece to wear.

This is so beautiful!! I love pyrite, it has such unique formation.. To be honest, i've never seen it polished like this and you've given it a real life of it's own within the setting..It seems to bring out that 'wet' look pyrite has.
Amazing work!!

this is super cool. I love the look of the Pyrite. It has almost a mechanical, gear-like feel to it. sweet metal work with the design.

Pyrite would be awesome to use in Steampunk designs if it weren't so friable.

Very nice!

Unfortunately, pyrite is not good a stone for jewelry purposes - as over time it disintegrates when exposed to humidity (water) in the air. The more humidity, the faster it falls apart. And when it combines with moisture, it creates sulfuric acid which will eat away at the silver. So eventually it will turn crumbly and destroy its setting.

That said, it's still a very pretty piece - even if not exactly practical.

Also, please don't take what I say here personally, it's just the truth about the material itself and has nothing to do with how much effort it must have taken to make this piece and how nicely it turned out.

Oh good, I'm glad I was helpful!

Also, you should avoid making jewelry using the mineral marcasite (iron sulfide) - which is sometimes also called pyrite and can look similar. It disintegrates as well due to its unstable crystal structure. I've seen it for sale as both faceted stones [link] and cabochons [link] and I've seen it set into rings before [link] , which is highly inadvisable as it's also quite soft for a stone.
