Well, the experience depends from the person and his ,, flavor,, i could say.
My contact and working with C4D was way easier and quicker then with other 3d software packages,3d max or maya...(even today i don't have clue how to make scene like i wish in those software's )
That what i most liked is that i could experiment so much i liked in C4D,when modeling polygons, textures, light setups, etc.
and i don't needed a powerful computer to do that actions.
The negative experience was with the textures..
i could not reach the quality like the v-ray texture materials,
even when i used V-ray plugin on C4D,tweaking the v-ray materials was very hard, and almost impossible,
and there in web are not enough free V-ray materials for C4D,to build good scene.
So to resume,it's depends for what you use C4D,
if is for normal use,it's very good.
if you use for hardcore artworks, then you must be prepare to learn between C4d,and another external render together like V-ray scene setup.
And don't just stop in modeling&texturing light setups,
do experiments with the simulation tools, objects animation, even think about doing 3d games with Cinema 4d!
