Wow I love this, the view is just mesmirising! You want to know what lies behind...!! I love the contrast between the orange/yellow and the purple/blue. That orange bush in the middle of the back is just so perfect. Is it a place you know?

I like the curving trees at each side, it kind of frames the painting. I also really like the contrast in colors.

beautiful! I like the constrast in colours, though it does leave me thinking, what is the intended atmosphere?
fantastic painting anyway

Thank you! For me, this paintings' intended atmosphere is one of leaving the cold, perhaps haunting past, and following a new, brighter path to a more comforting, optimistic future.

OMG gorgeous. I love the lighting. NIce colors and tones.

I suck at acrylic. I can't seem to make it look good! I guess I don't know how to do it right... is it much different from oil? Oil I can manage, but for some reason I find acrylic more difficult. Do you have any tutorials, or tips?

artsyone39 In reply to lilAURONgirl [2008-06-20 14:43:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

I would prefer to paint in oils, but I can't tolerate the smell (it gives me a terrible headache) I try to use acrylics like oil (I don't dilute them very much, except for when I am glazing) The only "trick" is that you have to work very quickly so that you can blend the colors before the paint dries.

The-Wandering-Ranger In reply to artsyone39 [2008-06-20 18:17:41 +0000 UTC]

I wish you'd tell my paint that I have the oposite problem; I can't seem to make anything stand out because it always seems to mix a little (or at least seem not completely opaque) even when I leave it to dry sometimes. I dont dilute the paints either; and no, I'm not working with watercolours

artsyone39 In reply to The-Wandering-Ranger [2008-06-20 19:18:31 +0000 UTC]

LOL..Yeah, I understand that problem as well. Acrylic will dry darker than what you want sometimes..OR like you say, can tend to be a little see-through. To get the brightest highlights, it is very important to wait until the painting is completely dry before you apply the highlight layer. If you need the paint to be more opaque, mix it with some white (for brightening) It can be difficult to not let your colors become muddy..acrylic behaves a lot like watercolor in this respect. Make sure if you are working on bright highlights to use clean color and clean water..this will help

Oh I love the smell of oil paint!... weird, I know. Hm... fumes... maybe that's why I'm such a spaz. lol.

But yeah, maybe the problem I face with acrylic is that it dries much too quickly for me. I'm REEEEAAALLYY slow... and oils take forever to dry, so that works for me. I guess I'll just practice to be quicker. Thanks so much for the advice! I'll have to give acrylic another chance.
