The following is a sample on Jonathan's personality, traits, and character role.

  Jonathan has always been a reasonable and kind person, making him more likely to be willing to handle situations tactfully and diligently. He is very willing to listen and follow directions, however at times people, like Lucian, take advantage of him and force him to do things he would willingly not do. Jonathan is aware of his weak nature, his inability to hurt those that he cares for, but if presented with a life or death situation, he will fight back and run away from whoever is harming him. Because people have rejected Jonathan and his kindness it has made him to become a shy adult with a tendency to feel uncertainty. This is an important part of Jonathan's development, as this uncertainty, shyness and vulnerability is what further accelerated Lucian's want to murder him.
  Jonathan has always wanted to serve others in terms of having a job that would benefit his community or even society as a whole. This is why Jonathan becomes a FBI agent, so that he can serve justice and the nation as a whole. Jonathan had noticed how much more touchy-feely and expressive Lucian was when he met him again in the 20's, and this was only the exterior differences about Lucian. He could not explain what exactly was different about Lucian, he could only sense the strange, dark vibe that Lucian had given off - and it made him feel complete vulnerability and ultimately fear. Jonathan has always been as sincere and honest as he can be, however he sometimes does not have a clear understanding of an issue from a social perspective. He can do his work and is willing to work with Elijah, his partner, but he may not be able to understand the feelings Elijah has about them working together on the case.

  In relation to the story, Jonathan Wilmire is a support character that is set in the 'subplot' of the manga. The subplot is basically a number of side events that happened in the start of the 20th century, particularly the 1920's, and those events have direct effects on the main story, which takes place in 2020. Because Jonathan Wilmire is transformed into Isaiah Sullen, he is able to tell said past events to the main characters, Yumo, Yumi, and Anthony. His memories of the past are still intact as well as journals he's written on his short but tragic life as an FBI Agent. Although the Jonathan Wilmire pictured in the art does not "actively" have a role in the main plot, he does as Isaiah Sullen and therefore it is arguable that Jonathan is in the main plot as a major support character.
