So yeah i finished this one finally, kinda took forever, kinda worked on it for the last 14 hours straight. I hope you guys dig this, i worked a lot on it.Yeah so if you arent aware, this is my own original character, Arvalis, whom you can find many pictures of in my gallery, done in the art style of Dissidia: Final Fantasy. It was pretty freakin hard to do, especially the lines, but overall i feel i have learned a great deal from it, and the project was worth doing. A really nice design that reflects the illustrations/concepts of the original Dissidia characters in both style and execution.
The armor and details to the costume have been well thoughtout and make working sense, as well as adding depth and reflecting the personality of the character.
The colour palette is consistent and well chosen, although a little desaturated for game art of this type.
In all he wouldn't look out of place featured in the game and the art would blend in nicely with the official artwork.
I think my main critisism would be the gender ambiguity in his face. It looks as though it's just in the eyes or jawline that give him a slightly over feminine look. This is not uncommon in the FF series, but from this image I get the impression that it is a little uncharacteristic

I was looking at all the dissidia art extensively while working on this and i liked the way cecil's palladin face was illustrated so i tried to mimic that a bit. I still dont really think he looks that feminine, maybe its just the eyeliner i added a la jack sparrow.

haha! See how you like it? Being rude never helps anyone. I wanted to illustrate my fury, but don't take it to harshly.
THE REAL CRITIQUE:
Uses stunning soft coloring to emphasize roundness of muscle, and to delicately show folds in fabric. Great knowledge of rendering texture; can easily see the differences between flesh, fabric and armor.
Cleverly redesigned character creates a new, interesting appreciation for fans of both Final Fantasy and Arvalis alike.
However, the face is a bit too feminine. I'm not so sure how to remedy it, but it's distracting to look at. It looks so much like a woman.... I asked my family members and my brother summed it up nicely: "It's either a really buff woman or a very gay man." I know the style calls for long eyelashes and a small chin, but... I think you should consider revising.
Also, the left hand in the armor. The claws look too skinny for fingers (compared to the other hand) to be in them. I'm not sure it that's how it's supposed to be, but it's a bit odd.
But really, this is awesome. 8D

I've been looking for artwork like this for some time now, actual custom Final Fantasy creations. I gotta say i really like this one, but if you really are looking for some critique all i can say say is that you could make the boots a bit smaller and more compact so its more practical looking and the fingers on his left gauntlet could be larger, unless you've intended it to be like that. That's all i can really say but aside from that i REALLY like this guy and i'd love to see him in action

Nice Work. The overall style is very similar of Square Enix. The face details are a too soft and round. The artwork in Square have more corners and edgy in the face and parts of the body. Study the face structure of the dissidia characters and you'll see what I'm coming from. Other than that, great work.
