Description This photo was sold to a collector in 1906 for $3.50 by an amateur photographer at Loch Ness. That value may seem small but by today's standards its roughly $85.00. The fisherman seen here is a veteran cryptid slayer, he is using a harpoon tied to a barrel of dynamite that will be lit by his apprentice. Once the creature is tagged it will flee in pain only to explode once out of reach of the boat. This photo was captured just before the animal was destroyed.

Poor lochness-beastie. What'd it ever do to them?

Aside from that, the splashes and the teeth of the pleiosaur(?) looks well-done.

Pure awesomeness in this work right here.
Personally, I would have tied the explosive to the harpoon itself, but this works too.

The harpoon is tied to a barrel of tnt

Groudan383 In reply to arvalis [2012-12-07 06:23:05 +0000 UTC]

And what is a harpoon tied to a barrel of TNT going to do lol? Unless the barrel has already been lit, and it doesn't fall into the water( which 99% will most likely happen), its going to be pretty useless

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

arvalis In reply to Groudan383 [2012-12-07 07:14:05 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the barrel would be lit and the fuse would have a coil inside a compartment in the barrel to avoid being put out under water.

I dont know, that seems too complicated for 1906 tech lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

arvalis In reply to Groudan383 [2012-12-07 21:09:38 +0000 UTC]

Not nearly as complicated as a automobile, aircraft, steam engine, or Gatling gun. All of which existed in 1906.

AGGGHHH, you've fallen into the trap of conflating TNT with dynamite! Besides, prehistoric monsters would be the least of my worries if I was stuck with that much volatile explosive on a rocking boat.

And given that the harpooner appears to be at least 70 years or older I'd venture his eyesight and reflexes aren't that good. At least, not as good as a dinosaurs. That "apprentice" had better pray to holy hell his "master" hits the mark. Otherwise they'll both be giving a new meaning to the term "fishfood". LOL.
