Do you have various settings on your scanning software? Are you able to manipulate the image before scanning it in? The program I use allows me to adjust highlights, shadows, and midtones as well as selecting presets that change how the scanner "sees" the image it is scanning.

Epsons usually come with some pretty decent scanning software. I've had mine for six years now and it works awesome, even after scanning thousands of negatives!
We actually plan on heading up the end of September or beginning of October for a quick trip and bringing Charm-N back down here for the winter, what are the dates for it?

September 8th - 18th, so maybe earlier than you guys were planning. Apparently Weird Al Yankovich is going to be there on the 12th; I saw that on their site. If you or Chris have any interest, you can just Google the Utah State Fair. I can get tickets free or really cheap, too, so don't worry about buying any. If you're interested.
I'm glad you've had such great luck with yours! I've liked HPs most of the time, but they definitely have their moments. Though there drastically better than Brother printers.

Once we get the dates more pinned down I'll let you know. I think we were leaning towards the later end, but I think it really depends on where we're with life and everything!
Epson, so far as I know, is one of the top scanner brands. They make pretty nice printers as well. I hope your new one works well for you!

I'm going to try photographing it after I frame it. The only way I can get great lighting is via sunlight, which typically includes some wind . . .
Thank you, though!

Photograph before you frame it, you'll have a hard time avoiding glare from the glass! Photo tutorial: [link]

If I'm out in the sunlight, I shouldn't need a flash, but even if it glared, I can pull the glass out. The only way I can get good light is in sunlight. Nothing in my apartment lights the way I like for a good photo.
But I can take lots of pictures and see which turns out best, too. And hopefully the scanner does a pretty good job. We shall see!

Glare isn't necessarily caused by flash, it's simply caused by light bouncing off of things and can be as simple as a reflection. I shoot most of my stuff outside as well and don't have any fancy light set-ups. It's just VERY difficult to shoot through glass and it really should be avoided if at all possible.

True. I haven't photographed a framed picture outside. Thanks for the tips!

I think I'll be needing to buy a new scanner, so that will give me time to play around with it at home. Also, I'm framing and matting it for an art show this fall, so I figured I'll see if it photographs better. It might work better than scanning for this color scheme . . .
I am very glad you like it, though! The rainbow colors on the horse were fun. I was feeling bored with whites and grays.
