Description Whoooooo look at me uploading stuff.

So, we had to color a line art in my Raster Imaging class, and I wanted to do one of my own, but Behemot was the only clean line art I had in my gallery
I already have him colored but I figured I'd color him anyways. I wanted to make his markings glow but....they don't really look like they are. OTL
I'm also not very happy with his hair. 8/
But I did discover that to get the shadows I wanted and stuff, I had to make my reds and such a ton darker. That was interesting to me. It's so much more...I dunno, dimensional than the one I did way back. ---> [link]

This is my first time actually coloring something in Corel Painter 12, so I don't totally hate it. I love Behemot

(Yes he is a Groudon gijinka)

Groudoooon~ <3 One of my fav legendaries. 8D

One layer huh? Very nice~ it's really hard to get a glow without using a layer effect on top of it, so I think you did really well with just what you had. I'm happy to see you doing more digital work, even if it's for class. XD I think your stuff looks really good with more rich colors like that.

And yeah, it's hard to get used to throwing the dark shadows on sometimes, but it's definitely a must! Keep practicing your shading, no matter what media you use. From looking at this, you have a decent light source, but there are a couple places the light wouldn't hit--like the back of his open skirt thing. And remember that cast shadows, especially, are going to have a harder edge, as opposed to being all soft like you have now. It also depends on the contours of what your shading. it the object is more rounded, like a sphere, the shading will be soft... but if it has angles/corners/etc. like a cube or geometric shape, it'll have sharp shadows. Most things you paint, like skin or clothes, will combine both types.

Sorry for the long rambling, but I hope it helps~

I'm sort of getting to like digital art more, which I never thought would happen since I'm not very good with it. XD

Thank you for the advice on the shadows! They were a pain for me. Hopefully we get another opportunity to color something so I can put your words to practice!

Very shnazzy. Your digital shading style is all... painter-like; like you can still see brush strokes despite not using a real brush, which I kinda like. 'N I like that he's glowing this time.

Duhhh I'm nnnot sure about his spiky hair. I mean, for a dark pic like this, I like that you didn't go all anime-defy-shiny-hair logic; it's just you can still see the white inside-of-lines parts. Maybe use a different kind of overlay style...? 'N the program's just called Painter? *never used it*

Also Iono what you did for the metallic scribbles background but it's kind of also snazzy and fitting.

Oh sorry, it's Corel Painter 12. That's what we use at school. The teacher told us we could only use one layer for coloring our figure, so I did it with a wet gouache brush since it sort of blends itself. I wanted to make his hair more shiny actually, I just couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how to do it. It's too mat/flat color for me. I dunno, I didn't really know what I was doing since I don't really use digital media at all.

For the background I just did the canvas entirely blue and made a second layer, scribbled a turquoise color on it and did a hard light effect on it.

Oh eww, one layer for the whole picture or were the line art and coloring on different layers?
Either way, that's so mean. : x

Just one layer to color the line art. It was....very stressing. XD
I kept getting mad at it.
