Description I thought I would take a break on what I'd been working on and draw something easier, so I decided to make an original-Danny-Phanton-style version of my Past Definitions fanfic image. (I was going to finish a version in my style later, but now I'm not sure if I really want to spend the time doing it... My style's hard...)

Here's the first chapters of the fic: www.deviantart.com/asjjohnson/…
It's a story about... coming to terms with things, maybe. A story about wishes gone wrong, differing viewpoints, adventure, and time travel. Or... Dan inadvertently makes a wish that turns him human, and he has to find Desiree with the help of his past self and friends in order to reverse it. (I gave him a small injury at the beginning of the fic, and then I had to keep mentioning it throughout the story, because normal people don't heal instantly. ...Oops.)

It's the first time I've tried copying the series' style this closely (though I think the outlines still aren't thick enough and the proportions still a little off). I used a lot of reference screenshots. And sometimes I just needed to see a character in motion to figure something out. Almost everything is copied from screenshots (Human!Dan's lineart is a mix of normal Dan, Danny, Mr. Sanchez, Damon Gray, Expensive-sweats!Danny, and Hotep Ra). In a way, I kind of wonder how much of the pic is actually mine.

I think the lineart was the hardest part of the picture (but lineart is always hard for me. That and shading, which this pic doesn't have). I don't mean drawing it, but just figuring out how to get the lines the right thickness and smoothness and staying consistent. I used the pen tool for the longest lines because it would be too difficult for me to draw such large sweeping lines. But I thought the pen tool would be too hard to use for smaller areas and would look too stiff. At first I'd tried turning off the brush's shape dynamics so the lines would be a consistent thickness, but it looked really stiff that way. I got better at it as I kept going, though.
(I have three screenshots of things I found interesting while making the pic: sta.sh/21o4gzdzstfz )

When I'd finished all the characters and was happy to finally get the pic done, and was simply adjusting the gradient in the bg (it was originally a sickly green color, which I'd imagined to be related to the dark future, but then I decided to make it a bluer green like Clockwork's lair)... I was looking at the picture zoomed out and randomly had the thought, "Hmm, it would look nice with buildings in the b.g." So... then I kinda argued with myself for a bit, because I didn't actually want to draw buildings. But then I decided it wouldn't hurt to just quickly scribble in some and see how it would look. So I took more reference screenshots and picked three in particular to copy almost exactly. The buildings were actually pretty easy, though, since I didn't need lineart.

Do you like it? (hopeful expression)
