That's because Vanellope was the princess in the first place, but turbo took over the game by reprogramming Sugar rush and tried to delete v's code and locked up the racer's and citizen's memories, but even worse, he told everyone that v can't race because he tells them that v will get the game unplugged and turbo turned himself into king candy, which so he can seize the throne, but he doesn't allow v to cross the finish line because if she crosses the finish line, the game will reset, and she will be restored to her to the rightful ruler of Sugar rush.
