((The Ancient Greeks were notoriously proud for their austerity in food. Decadence and luxury in cooking was seen as a Persian trait, so the Greeks went out of their way to enjoy the simple things... actually, it wasn't too far out of their way since the rocky and infertile terrain of Greece meant instant poverty. XD Lentil soup was a pretty common dish since not everyone could afford fresh vegetables, and meat was usually only eaten if the animal had been properly sacrificed.))

I wonder if the modern Greek word for lentils is the same as the ancient one?
(Today lentil and lentil soup is called 'Faki' and 'Fakes'... and yes its pronounced like the naughty English word. )
