Wow.
The only problem with prints being available is deciding between them. D:

What's the creature that has his/her face hidden there?

It was supposed to be a dragon as the original idea was an 1890's style ad for Maya, but it's a phoenix or something now.

X3 I still feel like I didn't catch all the elements that make a Mucha poster so recognizable, but ah well. Thank you much, it was a delightful project.

I love this art style, even if I never can remember that it's called Art Nouveau instead of Art Deco. *duhhh*
The background texture and mosaics are a really nice balance to the overall simplicity of the lines.

There's nothing much new in it, really. I haven't done shit these past weeks but work and Pokemon (and DA, I guess).

:3 Yeah, but there's still neat old stuff in it.
Only reason I've got new stuff is because I've been ADD during classes and shite.

Don't know how you feel about it, but I love this style of artwork. What's it called, and what time period is it from? It smacks of early 20th c. Tiffany type stuff.

^_^ You're so right on. This is art nouveau, more specifically, the particular style of Czech artist Alfons Mucha. His heyday was roughly 1890 to 1910, and he's well known for the advertisements and Sarah Bernhardt theatre posters he produced. Louis Comfort Tiffany was one of the premiere American artists to utilize the tenets of art nouveau.
All the Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts artisans rock my socks, if you must know. Oh, and if you're interested in architecture or furniture in the art nouveau style, you really must look up Hector Guimard (most famous for the ~20 or so Metro entrances that decorate Paris still) and Victor Horta. Geniuses all.

Bwaaaaah, it seems that you are good at drawing everything! Gotta love that sepia-like colour palette you have used.
I have two Mucha art-posters on my walls. I'm a big fan of his! I gotta say that your peace gives glory to him too! Total faw!

X3 thankee for the vote of confidence, but I'm only good at drawing that which I have references for. Truth tell? The original before I tweaked it was much richer in color - I'm thinking about uploading it too, just for comparison, but I'm not sure yet.
What I wouldn't give to find some Mucha posters lyin' around fer cheap...

kiesu In reply to Asraniel [2007-12-22 08:49:35 +0000 UTC]
Hey, don't say that! I use references too sometimes. It's no big deal, everybody use them at some point! They are great way to learn, trust me.
The original peace perhaps was richer in colour, but do you really use that many colours in one work? Muchas style of using colours is unique, and so is your style! It's hard work to mix two different styles. I know I couldn't do it! So score for you for making this out so great!
Heh, well the posters I have weren't exactly cheap... But I knew, if I wouldn't buy them I would regret it!
