HEY. YOU.
Care to muse with me about ancient Ikana civilization, before War with the Garo?
Because I run an RP and I'm just anal enough to care about how their presence will have effected the current inhabbitants of the valley, and the surrounding cultures.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Well shit, serves me right for making an Ikana solider XD
Honestly, I would reference the Zeldawiki page on the Ikana Kingdom . At least visually, I take it as Incan/Aztec influence with a bit of Sparta, but past that, that article is really all I ever know offhand. I would talk to Lock or Rueyeet about it for anything further. My canon lore specialty is Twili/Dark Interlopers, and club lore is Shadowkin/Juthaid. :/
But if you want me to bs an answer, then based on all that... I'd say that there would still be some design motifs and probably a lot of the musical heritage of eastern Termina would be influenced at least in part by old Ikana traditions. Also, like with what we supposed with the Garo, there are probably ethnic groups that can claim some diluted Ikana heritage so some ideals and practices might have been passed down in one form or another. To me it seems that depending on WHERE in the Canyon and Valley (and it's probably a decent sized area) you'll run into more Ikanan, or more Garo dead. Also to me it seems that the dead are more active at some times than others, so it MAY be an option to take a pass through the valley to travel abroad, but it's really risky.

... I wrote a huge response to this, and I forgot to send it. FML.
Let's try this again.
Good- we're on the Garo already
Say, for example, shortly after the curse on the land was broken, and the spirits of the ikana and garo warriors were laid to rest, Modern Garo colonized the valley. Their intentions, initially, were to 1) pay homage to their war dead, 2) make peace with what ikana decedents may have propagated on the land after however many centuries, and 3) research and record findings, for historical notation [1- for the sake of garo military history, 2-to preserve and and study the remains of the ikana culture].
How heavily do you think the remnants of the ikana (their structures, their relics, their remaining art and stories, as well as their daily patterns superimposed by the terrain, itself) would effect the Garo, or any other race that would colonize the valley? With what YOU know, and with what you and Mel have theorized about the garo, do you think they would let the new environment shape them, or rather, would they dominate it? Would they put every standing building to good use, or build their settlement seperate from the bloodstained ruins?
Now you can tell me everything you know about the garo

(Sorry for the extreme delay)
Again, I know mostly nothing and had to frequently double check on the Garo shit. They don't really interest me. My specialties are shadows and Twili.
considering the canyon and valley is still mostly the domain of the dead, colonization and 'modern' is highly subjective. 1) don't know, 2) don't know, 3) not sure but don't think was priority.
query 1) about as heavily as any culture or group moving into an area with remnants of a forerunner group would be influenced.
query 2) I think they would try and shape their environment only to a degree, instead taking lessons of toughness and solidarity from their environment.
query 3) they would totally build separate (that much I know)
honestly the only thing I really think I know is that the canyon and valley are still for the most part a no-man's land.

So, in your eyes, there is simply no chance for recultivating the land?

In my uninformed eyes, I would say there is very slim chance. Talk to... Lock, Puerto, and Palladium.
