This has been one of my ideas floating around for a while now. Creating a bust in some way. I usually connect it with royal characters. And then ~TheDashDub came along with his Album Art Contest
I thought that would be a great incentive to pick this up, make it a multi-purpose piece and such.

With any non-commission fan-art I'd be more then happy to say yes.
Even though I'd be fine with it, in this case some of the motivation behind this was also meant for ~TheDashDub 's album.
Maybe I'm looking too much into it, rendering me somewhat indecisive.
I guess if it doesn't directly "compete" or conflict with his use of the cover it should be fine.
(But I don't know what his view on it is. In the case where he'd prefer not, then I'd go with that)

They look quite stern as stone busts. I suppose there is some merit in that, as royal trappings are usually supposed to inspire respect and a touch of intimidation in those that view them. But there is something sad about this depiction of cold royal power, particularly since it includes Twilight who was recently swept into that world at a young age.

I absolutely adore the way the contrast between the busts depict the difference between 'new' and 'old'. Starting with the statured, regal wisdom of Celestia, to the open-eyed eagerness of Twilight.
I could stare at this for hours. What are the possibilities this could be released in a higher resolution for wallpapers?

Overall this is really good. But my favorite aspect, by far, is the lighting on their snouts.

Strange that I haven't seen it done yet. Particularly since the royal mantles look just right as the border of a bust. Needless to say, I love the shading here, the difference between the light and the shadowed sides and the way it reflects off the side we can see and how it makes it all feel. Some very precise use of tones on their faces and necks and hair there, great job!
An interesting way of showing the sort-of hierarchy among them, which actually simply echoes the show's own size difference: Celestia is the biggest, followed by Luna, Cadance and now Twilight. Their faces are reflected very well, too, it's good to have them all next to each other for comparison. For the record, Twily still comes out ahead as the loveliest Princess. Now that she can be compared to the others, I can see her youthful and clear and open appearance even better. Ah, Twilight... <3
They all seem to be mildly disapproving of something. Maybe Discord came by the gallery...
Oh, and my own idea for this is that a bust was made for each of them after Twi's coronation, either as part of the celebration or as an idea of one of them, either Twilight's or Celestia's.
