Next addition for my Season 5 Episode Art!Season 5, Episode 13 - Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep

They really did make a nice finisher for the first half of this season haha. So much stuff, so much tension throughout the entire episode (it even began high), all the randomness, the creations. That only meant I had choices to make...
Really fun episode, though! They definitely made use of the dreams. Including the feels... darn that Golden Oak Library!!!
I tried to stick to new stuff. There was plenty of throwbacks to previous seasons which would've been pretty great. And then there was Princess Big Mac haha. But since he was mostly already in the fandom anyway, I skipped on that as well.
For me it boiled down mostly to the monsters, and the smart monkey that I am of course then think about "why not all?!"
Ended up with two sketches I kinda liked. One focused on Anger/Angel bunny charging with Fluttershy, and all the other nightmare creatures. (At least from those who had them. AJ didn't exactly have a lot of creature nightmare going on)
Not a lot of ponies to see in the end. But some episodes simply do that.
Went a bit rougher with the brushstrokes. Making new things from the show is always a challenge. Having to translate it from the showstyle to shaded, it does often take a bit longer because of that. Also because I have to find the proper scenes and frames.

This episode has a ton of epic stuff to draw. Have you planned more art based on it?
Because when Season 4 ended, you also drew nine (ten, if we count the small picture with Tirek) pictures based on it because there was so much stuff going in it.

Damn it Monkey, I thought you were going to do draw Flutterbat riding Angel Monster, hehe. I seriously loved watching you stew over the episode trying to figure out what you were going to do. Do you have a Sketch book bit for all the little doodles you did for this episode? Would favorite them all in a heartbeat!

I thought he would draw the Tantabus while he tries to walk out of the dream, because his streams learned me that he always aims for the big and epic things in episodes. Strange that he didn't this time.
But, oh well. Drawing the Tantabus was already covered by a lot of other artists who drew him in a more detailed way than I believe AssasinMonkey could with his style.

It was some episode. It was tons of fun with awesome callbacks, references and WTF moments. I loved every second of those dream sequences and the final battle was spectacular. Giant Derpy, Knight Spike, Princess Big Mac, LyraBon, Monster Angel and Filthy Rich surfing on money were all so over-the-top that I just had to love them. Rainbow Dash's dream and nightmare were the best ones by far.
However, even though the episode was very entertaining, of course it handled some pretty dark themes as well. I had no idea Luna still felt so bad about her time as Nightmare Moon after all these years that she felt like she needed to punish herself with the same nightmare every night. I personally think she was being way too hard on herself. She kept saying she deserved it because she had made other ponies suffer, but... Seriously? A thousand years ago she turned into Nightmare Moon for about three minutes before Celestia defeated her and Celestia was the only pony she attacked. When she returned from the moon, she didn't do anything much worse except zapped some royal guards and tried to stop the Mane Six from finding the EoH in mostly non-lethal ways. The ponies of Equestria would have really suffered only if she had been in power a lot longer, if you ask me. I suppose I just can't understand Luna's massive guilt because I've never done anything really bad to anyone. Nevertheless, I think she was being stupid when she created the Tantabus in the first place. Yes, she didn't realize that it would get stronger over time, but that was even more stupid. Maybe Luna is just a masochist. We learned that Fluttershy likes being a pet and that Big Mac dreams about being a princess, after all.
I could go on for much longer, but I don't think I need to. I think a great, fun episode that deals with such mature problems like this would usually deserve a perfect score, but I'm afraid my final score is 9.5/10.
As for this picture, I like it. I usually don't fave MLP art that doesn't have any of the characters in it,Β but I'll gladly make an exception this time. Those creatures look amazing.

I don't appreciate it when someone calls Luna "stupid".Β Β She is not stupid, she had very good reasons for what she did. And she is not stupid for not knowing that the Tantabus was able to feed on her guilt, especially considered that nothing bad happened with it for years. This is like saying someone is stupid for developing a videogame and then not having reckoned with it that a certain bug could occur.
And speaking about stupid, what is actually stupid is how you say that Luna is maybe a masochist and how you are completely serious with that.
Torturing herself to make herself suffering to punish her for what she did as Nightmare Moon was the whole point of her creating the Tantabus in the first place. Do you really understand what "masochistic" means?
You are very hostile towards Luna and I sense a lot of hidden Luna hate here.

You're completely wrong, I love Luna as much as any brony. I just honestly think that she was overreacting when she decided to punish herself like that because of reasons I already mentioned. Maybe I shouldn't have called her stupid, but I think creating the Tantabus really was stupid of her. But hey, everypony makes mistakes, right?
