Description

Inktober has arrived! I am inspired and in awe by all the people that post an inkdrawing every day this month.

I am not ready for the daily challenge yet, maybe next year. This is my practice in inktextures from a tutorial of Alphonso Dunn www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP-yYa… . Just to get more feel for the medium. Textures turn out to be fun!

Thank you www.deviantart.com/sol-caninus for the inspiration to work more in ink!

To all Inktober diehards, good luck

Funny how everyone sees something else, even if it's an abstract drawing.

I love every little detail of this drawing, that's so beautiful!!
It does not matter if you did not draw per day, as I always say quality is more important than quantity!

What has inspired you to create this work? It looks like some small town where everything is similar in shape, but so different inside.

It's funny, everybody sees something else in them! I like the idea of a small town.

I just followed the tutorial of Alphonso Dunn. The main goal was to use different textures on a sphere, while thinking of light and shape.

Aye Carumba! INKtober.  It completely slipped my mind - no mean feat since I was thinking about it.

My initial thought was it looks too picky with tones too blended.  But reduced to one quarter size it pulls together very nicely; it easily pass the postage stamp test.  Looks very good at reduced size in terms of expressing masses, describing forms and indicating textures.

How about doing one with a brush?  (It will go much more quickly and easily as it will be about suggesting details.)

Thank you for your feedback  Phew... I passed the test  Haha... the nibpen and brush are still very new. Maybe I'll try with the brush as well. This was a whole new experience for me to work more playfully with a pen. Just letting it go, not planning every line. It was unexpected fun

Do I need to add water when I use a brush with the ink? No idea here...

Oh!  I didn't realize you did this with a nib pen. Congrats!  Yes - the idea is more akin to coloring than outlining.  Think of mass, density, solidness (which, btw, is greatly enhanced through the use of cast shadows, so, don't neglect them - I mean study them in order to create a strong composition and realistic impression).

For brush it is exactly the same.  With pen or brush one can change the viscosity and/or value of the ink by adding water.  One technique is to brush-tone the paper with values one desires, as if doing an underpainting, then work over them with all black pen lines (hatch tones and outlines).  Another is to lay in the lines (hatch tones and outline), then tone with wash or simply drag a wet brush over the lines to make them run, creating tone from them.  These techniques apply to watercolor as well as ink drawing.
