I found nice looking pocket size sundial compass from one antique & handcrafts event where i was selling my products about six months ago. That nautical style is very close to steampunk aesthetics so i wanted to use it for making new prop for my "neo-Victorian gentleman's" costume and this is the final result.There is one online shop who sell similar brass sundials if you also want to make own "antique solar wristwatches". There is usually spinning compass needle in the bottom, if you want to buy similar travel sundials from somewhere. [link]

Ah... I see... that would have been my guess as to what that lower dial was... I'd be curious how accurate time derrived from these is for an above average intelligent person... I could see myself just not holding my arm at the right angle or something....
Never needs winding, never needs batteries, but really bites at night or on a cloudy day.

Those "tourist replicas" are not very accurate time devices. (Moving wrist is so unstable platform, that needle just spins around too long, before it stop to right angle..)
I have heard that most of the travel sundials from 300-400 years ago were also more larger and sturdier objects.

There was one factory made leather wristband under it, but I cut the widest part to new shape and covered it with new more thinner leather, border strips and brass plates etc.
Those two straps with steel buckles are probably only intact detail from original wristband.

Nice to hear it. I don't like for example those glued together trinkets, or plactic objects painted to brass/copper colours, what you see every day categorized to steampunk in some random web pages etc.
It looks too tacky for my own taste, so I always try to use more "authentic" working methods and materials.

Aye, that's what i like at your hand crafts, it's totally forged and handmade thus "authentic", if you only did a lot of good leather works too; cause i'm having this really big project going on: steampunk in norse style, it have taken months and more months to go before it's done but if everything goes smoothly then it will become one of the most known masterpieces on the web.
