So, it's finished. Took me a few days, but I consider the result well worth it. Now, I'll be completely honest. I just found out today that the Canon, Rift, Omega Tournament, and others are parallel timelines/ dimensions, when before I thought that it went Karma Thesis->Rift->Omega->Whispers. Silly me. So, based on the fact that in Whispers the Rangers are slightly older, but have also had to deal with more bad Karma, I determined how this would work.

In my original plan for Alex's timeline, he received his power in Karma Thesis, only to give it up after the final battle, seeing as he was no longer needed. He sank into depression for two years, only to take up the mantle again when the Rifts appeared. He increased in power for several months after that through an incident I eventually intend to commit to paper, and his ordeals in the Omega Tournament brought him an even deeper understanding of his own strength and what his power really is. It was also at this point that he obtained his "Starmech" and gained his beast form. Which is where he'd be Post-Omega, at his most powerful yet.

In Whispers, Alex never gave up being the Azure Comet Ranger, since the incident I mentioned before happened much sooner than expected, and thus Alex fared very poorly due to his relatively weak power, almost losing his powers permanently on a few occasions. This was due in part to his karma of failure. However, the increased threat also forced him to take multiple levels in badass much earlier than he had needed to before, so that by the time he was 21 he'd already surpassed Rift!Alex in terms of power despite being the same age. Essentially, at the same time Alex of the Rift once again became a ranger, Whispers!Alex was as strong as him after the events of the Omega-Tournament and Starmech Encounter.

Whispers!Alex has all the powers that were listed in the Omega Tournament Character select, but with greater control and strength due to an increased understanding of his element, Plasma. I looked up plasma on Wikipedia, and (though I take it with a grain of salt) it turns out that the powers I've given him over the years very easily translate into being Plasma based. The kicker? A LOT of the objects in the universe are composed of plasma, including stars, Solar Wind, Interstellar/Planetary/Galactic Space, the accretion discs of black holes, and THE TAILS OF COMETS. No, really! [link] So, naturally, I could finally identify the up-til-now unnamed energy that Alex used for his powers.

As a Required Secondary Power, Alex also has electromagnetic control, in order to shape and manipulate plasma at will. While it could potentially have other uses, this is the only way he knows how to use this power at the moment.

In addition to his OT powers, Alex unconsciously creates a field of Plasma around him in combat, which he can use to amplify his attacks and defense. In addition, it gives him an increased resistance to energy based attacks, and in certain cases he can literally absorb an energy attack and use it to recover strength and power.

I really am amazed at how well the idea of Plasma fits him, despite knowing virtually nothing about it since I created Alex. Achievements in Ignorance, I suppose...
