"Astral Beast"

Length: 16 m/ 52 ft

Height: 6 m/ 19.5 ft

Weaponry: Claws, Fangs, Adaptive Body(Granted by fusion with the Azure Comet Ranger; allows its body to reconfigure to produce weapons such as blasters, missile launchers, various blades, etc.), able to charge basic attacks with energy to increase their power.

Strengths: Very mobile and agile, reacts instinctively in combat and shows capacity for learning, many different forms of attack.

Weaknesses: Very vulnerable to water based attacks due to energy-based make-up, tends to cause as much damage to its surroundings as it does to its opponents due to being essentially a wild animal kept barely in check by its handler, lacks the raw strength that a "traditional" mecha of equivalent size would have, does not see Alex as anything more than a vessel to eventually take over and consume, Earth's atmosphere cuts it off from most of its diet of various radiations present in space which makes it unable to use its full power without Alex.

And here we have my entry for the Starlight Rangers Mecha contest! Though Leonine in appearance, this "mecha's" original form was that of an amorphous blob of energy which could change itself into mass and vice-versa. Upon contact with a ranger's energy, it seemed to suffer a malfunction of sorts, and lost some of its shape-shifting capability, appearing nearly exclusively in the form it took for battle against Alex. While made of an unknown form of energy, it is very much corporeal and able to interact with the world in potentially destructive ways.

It appeared on Earth without any real warning, aside from a freak storm over Maine, and seemed to home in on the location of Alex Kalar, the Azure Comet Ranger, for reasons currently unknown. Upon arrival, it assumed the shape of a massive beast and attacked Alex while he was visiting his family, seemingly drawn to the energy emitted by his transformation key.

A battle ensued, with the Azure Comet Ranger forced on the defensive by his opponent's size and attack, as well as a necessity to try and minimize damage to the surrounding area. The fight was even more difficult due to the fact that while his opponent was a tireless being made of energy, Alex's endurance could only last for so long. Eventually, he discovered that the creature's energy could be absorbed and redirected by his Adaptive Weapon Gauntlets, and at the limits of his strength Alex did what he considered the stupidest thing he could do: jumping into the creature's mouth and down its throat to attack its core. With the ability to attack its weak point directly, Alex inflicted massive damage on the being's nucleus.

Faced with imminent destruction, the creature demonstrated that it wasn't simply a mindless beast, and its core sought refuge in the only place it could: within Alex himself. It had realized that it could be absorbed by him, and used this link to its advantage to take shelter within the very core of Alex's power, attaching itself to him like some kind of parasite and refusing to let go. The shock and strain of this, combined with the long battle, overwhelmed Alex and forced him to pass out. The creature's body dissipated, absorbed within the boy who had managed to best it.

Now fused to the core of his ranger powers, Alex is unable to remove the beast on his own, and what's worse is that it can consciously attempt to assume control of him while he is in ranger form. In addition, the creature seemingly absorbed Alex's ability to Boost. If there is an upside to this, it would be that Alex can willingly tap into the power of the beast, attaining a transformation similar to Boosting which transforms his armor (painfully) into a shape resembling the form it took during their battle. "Beasting out" (as Alex calls it, from he game he loved as a kid) increases the risk of it attempting to take him over, and the risk of collateral damage dissuades Alex from using this power on a regular basis, only calling on it in dire circumstances.

If the Godzilla Threshold is crossed, and all other options are exhausted, Alex can unshackle the beast, allowing it to materialize at full size while he is absorbed into the core, acting as a guiding influence for the duration of the battle. This is an absolute last resort, as once the beast is released, Alex is unsure if he can actually reseal it within himself again.

So...Yeah. My original idea for a mecha was a giant turtle robot, but I couldn't come up with a satisfactory story for it. Hopefully, this will be the first of many submissions to Rangers United, and a sign that I'm back to stay for the duration. Best of luck to everyone!
