Description 18 x 36 inch oil on canvas

More experiments with Art Nouveau designs with cats.  The cat is my next door neighbour who visits daily.

I had a lot of problems photographing painting, tried fixing in photoshop with little success.  Will try and get a better shot. The horizontials
are straight, camera picks them up as curved.  Resubmitted this new version, horizontals looking better.

Vampires, Pennsylvanians and Feature #62Many of you know that I do night work as a vampire so when :iconhaegun: contacted me and said that he was inspired by my vampire makeup photo   to write a story I was super excited about that.  Of course I wanted to share his finished story in this journal.  It’s full of delicious vampy awesomeness.
Recently I came across some parody videos that show just how amazing (ha) it is to be from Pennsylvania.  I’m sure every place has their quirky things and these videos highlight all the best of those kind of fun and wacky things in the wonderful land of PA.  I’d thought that I would share because they’re funny….or they might only be funny to someone from Pennsylvania.  Hmm… awkward possibly, but maybe you’ll all learn something completely and utterly useless by watching. You never know until you try, right?  At the very least you will never, ever want to visi

thankyou, its one of my favourite paintings, it happened accidently.  I had an underpainted canvas in ultramarine blue for another project that didn't work and I was going to overpaint it.  When I put the red on it turned to magic, and my initial idea changed.

Yes it certainly is magic! I'm glad you were able to pull such beauty out of frustration.

Thankyou very much, it looks even better in reality.  The blue is ultramarine blue which has a beautiful transparent quality that the camera cannot capture.

Too bad... I know the problem but if it look so beautiful even this way, the original must be gorgeous

Yes it is, ultramarine is my favourite blue.  I underpainted in ultramarine, then the red over it when it was dry.  That was the same process with your portrait.  These were canvas's I had prepared years ago for another project that didn't work out.  Sometimes failures can turnout into something wonderful.

I combined two images, my cat next door who visits and a beautiful art nouveau design I found. The canvas was underpainted in ultramarine blue oil paint then the red design was painted over that when dry. Pleased you like it, the photo doesnt do it justice.

The colours are wonderful. All the black and darkblue go so well together and with the red. The cat looks very real and all the patterns are beautiful.

Your drawings and oils remind me so much of what my mother draws! She does not really draw anymore, but she loved drawing and painting cats!

Agh, cameras and their dang curved lines. Try to get as far away from the painting as possible, steady the camera and then zoom in (and get many shots). It helps sometimes. Good luck!

feech In reply to AstridBruning [2015-07-13 21:29:08 +0000 UTC]

Hi, I was just thinking about this again today and went looking for some way to do it digitally. If you have any kind of digital image editor (such as GIMP or Photoshop), you might be able to fix it.
In GIMP 2.8 in the dropdown it's Filters-Distorts-Lens Distortion
It might also be called a Perspective tool.

I opened your painting in GIMP and messed around with it a little bit. I got what seemed to be a good correction by doing a tiny "plus"/positive amount on the Main slider.

However, your results may vary.

I felt inspired to practice with it because I've run into this problem before and was always frustrated by it. So I learned something new.

I won't use a scanner because the top layer of the finished painting always seems to get "eaten" by the scanner. So now I will only use a camera, but there is always some lens distortion (though it got much better once I started taking photos farther away and zooming in).

I've also noticed photos tend to "squish" my lines a little. So I use an image editor that allows you to resize each dimension separately, so you can make the final edited image resized about 1 or 2 % more in the vertical dimension than in the horizontal, and it helps get my correct lines back.

I hope you find something useful in all this unsolicited advice.

I really enjoy your lovely cat paintings! *<3*

thankyou very much for all that info, I did use a Perspective tool in another program to correct it to this point, but I will try rephotographing and I will try photoshop to correct.
