Description

They had entered the city with almost no problems. A small close call with some guard but they had managed to get through with no one seeing them. The patrol had lerked through the city. Pluto still remembered the way from her last rescue mission for Phillip and they made it there in good time. It was now thoroughly dark enough for them to stay hidden in the deep shadows of the buildings. With the coliseum in sight Pluto had split off from the patrol. All according to plan. Giving her goodbyes and good lucks to Glacius and her friends. They knew what to do but she found it harder than usual to leave her mates side. She had to trust them and she did. But she knew that once she was away from them it was all out of her control. It was strangely difficult to let go of that control.

But she still did, for them. Her part was essential to the success of this mission. She was followed closely by Valeriana. The rusty spotted cat lingered at her side as they left the others behind. Neither of them said a thing as they pulled the pre-prepared torches from their armour, courtesy of their blacksmiths. Together they scaled the closest building. Crouching on the roof tops while Pluto searched for the right target. She spotted an old looking wooden building and she nodded towards it. Val nodded back to Pluto in confirmation. Hopping over the rooftops, they were only a street or two over from the coliseum. Well within the ranger for the coliseum guards to come running to help. So, the two cats descend back to the street.

They slinked out of the shadows quickly, to light the torches on an exposed flame no doubt used to light the street. The torches went up in flame easily and Pluto sprinted across the street to the building. She saw Val out of the corner of her eye, running to the other side of the building. They would light it from both sides and meet up on the roofs once again. Pluto looked around warily before holding her torches the building. The dry wood lit on fire almost immediately. She took the liberty of lighting the building on fire in a few different spots. Just to be safe. As soon as she was sure it would fully go up in flames she retreated. Climbing up onto a nearby roof and casting her gaze around for Valeriana. Her brow creased in concern. She didn’t see her.

Keeping low the silver made her way across a few roofs to get a look at the other side of the building. What she saw made her body stiffen and she froze in the darkness. By now the building was engulfed in flames. Val had succeeded in lighting the building on fire on her side but she hadn't gone unnoticed. Two cats had her cornered between one rotting wall connected to the building they had lit on fire, and themselves. Pluto watched, forgetting about the fire that was continuing to grow. She was conflicted. Her family. Her children needed her now. She had told herself she would be there. To save them and take them home. But, would she abandon Valeriana to do it.

The lynx closed her eyes. Why was she even thinking like that? She couldn’t betray one of her empire mates. But still she hesitated. She wanted to be there. She wanted them to see her again. To know she loved them. To hold them and tell them it would all be okay. Her ears twitched. Finally hearing the yelling and alarm as the fire was noticed. No. She wouldn’t She was the Silver of her empire. Every member of the empire was an invaluable member of her family and she would never abandon family. Every one of her family was getting out of this today. Including herself.

Baring her teeth at the backs of the city felines she crawled over the rooftops. Making her way to them till she was over their heads. The fire light glimmered off her pelt, illuminating her eyes as she glared hauntingly down at them. One might have been a hunter. She didn’t really care to figure out. She unsheathed her claws. Digging them into the tiles as she launched herself off the roof. Landing squarely on the shoulders of one and knocking him to the ground. She had to give Val a chance at escape. The rusty cat had others to look for.

So, in a show of possible stupidity. The lynx barely missed a beat as she launched herself off the hunter and tackled Valeriana through the rotting wall and away from the hunter. They crashed through it and rolled to a stop on the dirty floor of the store house. Dust hung in the air and thick smoke billowed inside from the building next door. It gave them perfect cover, for a short time. Pluto coughed, jumping to her feet. Ignoring the look Val was giving her as the smaller cat picked herself up. The silver swung her head around. Searching for an exit. There, light filtering through the smoke. She hurried across the floor with val in tow. The coast was clear.

Pluto looked back to Velriana. Her eyes burning with the same intensity as the fire next door. “Go.” She ordered. The tone of her voice left nothing to argue about. It was one of the few times she used that commanding voice. She had always preferred not to give orders unless it was in a dire situation. This was one of those situations.

Valeriana blinked at her silver. “What?”

Pluto’s eyes narrowed. They didn’t have time for this. “GO.” That intensity softened a little, but her heart was pounding with fear and panic. She wouldn’t let it show though. “You have someone to find. Cats to save. Now, go. I’ll deal with this.”

The rusty spotted cats eyes widened. “Your family-”

Pluto interrupted as her heart skipped a beat. Guilty she felt guilty. “Will be just fine. As long as you escape then everyone of my family that I have brought here. All of you. Will be safe. I’m tasking you with that order. Find every one of our family that you can find and get them out of here.” Her eyes shined with tears. This was her duty to them all. Even if it meant she couldn’t be there to save her blood family. “Don’t forget my cubs. Now go.”

Val hesitated and Pluto heard the hunters muttering outside, though they couldn’t see the empire felines yet through the smoke. So, the silver turned and shoved Val through the door into the night. Val took one last look at Pluto before turning away, squeezing her eyes shut.

Pluto’s breath came faster. “And Val,” The spotted cat looked back. “Tell them I love them for me. My mate too. You’re all the best things that ever happened to me. All of you. My whole empire. I'll see you all again. Soon. Don't wait for me. I'll see you all back at home.” Her voice quieted, thinking of the odds she would soon be against. “Just in case.”

A mix of emotions swam in Valeriana’s eyes. But without a word she turned and ran. Disappearing into the darkness of the alley ways. She took a steadying breath. Turning her back on the exit and stalking back into the smoke. She would draw their attention. They would be solely focused on her. A rogue empire cat that has infiltrated the city and must be found and apprehended. They wouldn’t see the rest of her patrol coming because they would be so focused on winning the accomplishment of catching Ice empire Silver Gladiator. She stepped out to face them. The fire light igniting the night in soft light. She snarled at them as they looked on warily. Trying to see what her moves would be. By now there were others. Humans and maybe a pet or two it seemed. They weren’t getting any closer to the feral empire cat, looking at her with disgust or horror. The two fighter though. They squared off with her. Trying to stare her down with snarls of their own.

She sneered at them, those pets would be sure to spread the word. “You want the honor of capturing a Silver gladiator? Come and get me.”

Previous -> WE will prevail      Next -> Out of the dark and into the light

Once reaching the city, Pluto and her patrol make it in with no problems. All according to plan Pluto and Valeriana split off from their patrol and go make a distraction for the rest of the rescue team to free their family a friends. They set a building alight but while Pluto makes it out unnoticed, Val gets cornered by a patrolling city guard and hunter. Pluto steps in to help and gives Val an order to flee. Choosing to leave the rescue of her family to her friends and mate. Planning to keep the hunters attention on her by spreading the fact that Ice empires Silver is in the city and that there's potential for one of them to capture her. Hoping the hunter ego will bring them her way instead of to her patrol members. Val leaves to find the rest of the patrol and initiate the escape. Pluto faces off against the hunter and city guard present.
