The Beldam's lair: The Pendulum

ideation + process:
A more recent sketch I did, mostly trying to figure out a design that was both simple but ominous for a liminal-space witch.

Not so much in just the "internet aesthetic" of liminal space [but eventually I really want to add that too to this series, such as the inside of this thing] but more of the literal "threshold" feeling and pronouncing your vulnerability from the surrealty of it. Something that is so simple went through so many revisions. I went with many different designs for The Pendelum - some being warped and grand, asymmetrical and cluttered, cramped yet exposed, but eventually, I ended up with this and so far I like it a lot. One of my favorite architecture designs is brutalist architecture, so I extracted a lot of inspirations from things like Halo, Warframe [with their recent update,] and of course the Backrooms/Liminal Space aesthetics, trying to mix it up with kind of a "soft" surrealism.
