Description This is a continuation of my "Visions" project--an ongoing photographic exploration of themes inspired by pre-Raphaelite and Victorian classicist art, as well as folk and fairy tales, legends, and Romantic poetry.

It's pretty straight photography, as I felt this image didn't need much adornment--and is part of a shoot I'm editing right now--a shoot involving an extraordinary young woman whose modeling name is "Daphne Damage".

Daphne's normal modeling work is about as near opposite my style as you can get--but from the moment she showed up to meet me, bubbling over with enthusiasm and energy, wearing a black leather jacket, rolled up jeans, and pink striped socks, looking like a 5' tall elf, I knew we were going to have FUN.

I was right. She's a natural in front of the camera--one of those rare models who is two steps ahead of me, and comes up with poses I would have suggested before I've had a chance to think of them. I pretty much dressed her up, fixed her hair--and then let her loose on the set--and sat back and enjoyed the show.

You can see more of this young lady's portfolio at: [link] (Warning for the younger of my viewers--much of her work is slightly fetish oriented--and involves nudity, although I believe that those images are hidden by default.)

I'm dreadfully behind on my watch lists and in answering comments (ugh! 79D, 40M, 176C, 31J and 5N, at last count!)...but I'm so in love with this image--the skin tones, the eyes--that I couldn't wait to share it with you! Enjoy!

Very compelling face. She draws the viewer in.

I've been part of great debated on Photo.net and FLickr, regarding the "art" of photography.
I think there are "photographers" and artists that use photography as a tool. I'm certain you find yourself in the latter category. Perhaps we need a new word to describe that?

FYI, she only has one image up on ModelMayhem.

It's one of mine, too...it's my main business card, actually.

Oh--here's something you might enjoy, actually--although it's only online temporarily (hence, the "trial software" notice on it!): [link] It's a Flash version of a sample book I put together recently...and it takes a few moments to download--since it's 40 pages altogether. Unless you're viewing it at 1920 x something, you'll have to scroll, though--it's a little too large for normal viewing. If you see any white pages--go back, and let it load a bit more. All the pages--including the back cover--are color and textured--so anything other than that just means it didn't load properly.

So there. Don't say I never do anything for you!

Whoa that is SO cool!!! I've never seen that before! I especially loved the young girl with it looked like wings and holding flowers and the last photo which was a complete surprise it's so different from your others. Really a wonderful way to showcase your work!!

Hehe--how like you, to find pieces at both ends of my body of work, to enjoy! "Fey" (the little girls with the wings) is from several years ago--the same shoot that yielded all the "little girls with fairy wings" shots...and the other image is actually "Jeanne d'Arc: Imprisoned at Rouen"--and was from the fourth part of an all day shoot we did loosely based on the life of Jeanne d'Arc. We went from pretty peasant girl, to warrior woman, to crowning the king, to half-mad, in prison. I loved the prison segment--our Jeanne really got into it--they were easily my favorites from the shoot.

Have I told you lately how much I love you?!

No as a matter of fact it's been quite some time since I've seen you write "I love you" but hey I'll take what I can get when I can get it!!
I don't just love you I LURVE you! I saw Annie Hall yesterday, love that movie!!!

Alas--I'm unable to browse your journals as far back as June, so I cannot view this in it's proper context (and be inspired by all the marvelous artists I'm sure you featured!), but nonetheless, I do thank you for featuring my work...and hey, at least I had the chance to look at your other features, and be plenty inspired there!

THAT'S "Daphne"? She never showed me this set! *blink* She looks... Innocent! *snickers* She's never gonna live this down

Of course, I kid, she's gorgeous and always has been. You think she's pretty? She can sing too–I wish someone would tap her for vocals again!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Athansor In reply to katadams [2010-01-01 18:05:19 +0000 UTC]

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get to this comment--but yep, that's "Daphne", alright! And it certainly IS quite different from her usual thing. (But my WORD, she's a versatile model--far and away one of the best I've ever worked with, despite my initial doubts over whether or not we'd be on the same page. She is GOOD.)

And I had NO IDEA she could sing!!!! (Doesn't surprise me, though, now that I think of it. Frankly, I don't think there's ANYTHING she couldn't do, if she wanted--what a gal! )

This is a terribly belated response...but nonetheless, I wanted to let you know how very honored (and humbled!) I am to have been included in your wonderful news article! I LOVE that people on dA spend so much of their precious time helping people find beautiful art--that spirit of generosity is one of the reasons I keep my account here, despite how little time I have to keep up with comments. (As you can see, since this is a year and a half in making! ) May your new decade be filled with joy!

you know, Rembrandt, in his earlier years, did a painting of himself & his wife where they played gods & goddesses of drink, and it is so touching because while they posed, they also looked like innocent children having a wonderful time. I can't even put the words to this photo, except that it has that feel: a model wholly at one with her role, fully absorbed in her lushness, leaning towards us in your ever-present invitation (while perfectly at one with herself) (all Athansor gifts!), but there's a slight unobtrusive feeling that this is exquisite and gentle theater, play in the best sense of the word, and she almost seems to be offering it back to you (!). The constant 'miracle' of your work is that all these postures & inner expressions are captured with utmost subtlety, all these emotions in a silken touch, truly a collection of 'grace notes'. Your greens have always been luscious; your background green is just a perfect fulfillment of the greens of the costume; and it's all adorned with the right amount of make-up, wreath and billow. How you get opulence and vulnerability everytime, I don't know; but when angels are working through your eyes & hands, it happens...

Athansor In reply to GrandeOmbre [2008-04-06 08:02:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much--but what on earth do you have to feel bad for?! Your own work is lovely! You have a very strong vision--and your work is clean, and crisp, and very focused on what you're trying to get across! (Never mind that you're doing photography AND photomanipulation--whereas I really only do photography, and what is more advanced retouching, than photomanipulation. )

If you feel you have a long ways to go before you get where you want to be...well, join the club--you're in great company! (Trust me--at least once a week, I decide I have no talent at all, and will never be any good as a photographer...usually after I've spent too much time looking at other people's art. )

Your work is terrific--and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it!

Wonderful! Isn't it a treat to work with a model who is in tune with your vision and as creative as you are? My Muse Betcee May and a handful of others are like that. I swear Betcee knows my mind before I do. Uncanny and sometimes spooky

Nor surprised she a chameleon.

I'm shooting a tattooed fetish model [link] who also does fine art next month who desperately wants to do dance movement photos! Apparently no one has noticed her dancer's physique and been inspired.

Strange to me that no one has asked her to draw from one of her passions like this. It's one of the big factors of our excitement to be working together!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Athansor In reply to photoscot [2008-03-12 11:31:24 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! And yes--it is *indeed* a pleasure when you're working with a model who not only understands where you're coming from, but takes everything you give her, and doubles it. It's rare--but fantastic! I'm so pleased that you have a few models like that to work it--it sure makes your job easier, doesn't it?!

*escura is lovely...and I'm sure will be wonderful at some dance-inspired work! She's got a very classy, elegant look to her that will, I think, make her a natural at that sort of thing.

I think that fetish models can be stereotyped all too easily. Photographers who are interested in that sort of photography are either skeezy GWCs, or really serious about what they're doing--but in either case, they're not necessarily interested in doing anything else. And photographers who *don't* do that sort of thing (like myself! ), are either a) unlikely to be exposed to their work, or b) assume they're not interested. I'm often surprised by how many young women with a great deal of fetish work in their portfolios approach me, wanting to work with me--and by how very anxious they are to do something involving no nudity, and a very innocent, timeless look--I wish that I had the time to work with them all!

I look forward to seeing what you two come up with--I'm sure it will be fun for both of you!

(BTW--I checked out your websites--and really enjoyed them--both the content, and the presentation. I was particularly taken with the really professional looking page you set up on your erotic site, for contact info for the models. I'm in the process of putting together a more professional webpage for myself...and I think I'll be snaffling that idea from you--it's quite the nicest I've seen done! ))

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

photoscot In reply to Athansor [2008-03-12 18:27:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm very excited at the prospect of working with Escura. We've spoken once so far and she's a bright well spoken young woman with lots of creative ideas of her own. You're absolutely right about fetish photogs. That may be why the models sometimes crave a chance to work with a fine art photographer, fashion photographer, or a reformed photojournalist like me even if they have their regalia on. It's a different feel. I'll be doing dreamy romantic intimate photos with another model who approached me for that very reason.

Thanks for the compliment on my pages. I really have to do some work on it. It's been too long so it's seriously out of date, but I did put real time into the design phase. I studied design at The Pratt Institute. My web page is one of the few places I use those skills.

Take care my friend!
