Description Another piece in my "Visions" project: an ongoing exploration of fantasy; pre-Raphaelite; and Victorian classicism inspired images.

This piece is, believe it or not, very heavily manipulated--just in a highly realistic fashion. It is all the same scene, but I did a lot of painting on the girls (the photo was very noisy--this showed very heavily in their faces, and other skin tones); put in a flowered meadow behind them, instead of the ugly asphalt road and passing bicyclist...

I'm particularly pleased with the depth of field and shadow variations that I got when putting in the flowery meadow. The flowers were taken from a large potted daisy-ish sort of plant that I carted to this shoot...along with bags and bags of other interesting props that I forgot to use!

The other particularly interesting thing about this photo (to me, anyway!) is that it was the first time I used a wonderful technique by Kevin Ames, to smooth skin tones on Stephanie's (the model in brown) legs. (For those who like to know that sort of thing--you add a small amount of monochromatic noise, followed by a gaussian blur, to a layer with the legs masked off on it--then switch the blend mode of the layer to darken, then lowered the opacity to taste. It's counterintuitive--but highly effective! )

Well, it's taken me almost a year to unearth this comment--but thank you, nonetheless! Julia Margaret Cameron has probably influenced my work more than any other photographer--so that's a great compliment!

Beautiful but they look like fea with NO wings ??? soft feathered wings! but a lovely picture just the same!A Joy to look at!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Athansor In reply to bunnypixie [2007-09-04 01:59:10 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!

And believe it or not...the are all wearing wings, actually! That white, behind Stephanie (the girl sitting up high) is butterfly wings...and you can just barely see the green luna moth wings Kaitlin (the girl with her back to us) is wearing...and Becca...the fairy in moss green--is wearing the largest wings of all...but they were so heavy that they kept drooping down behind her. You can see what they really look like in this image: [link] and in this one, you can see how long they are--see the white way down on her left side? [link] They're monster wings! We had a DREADFUL time managing them, during the shoot!

I actually have a whole box full of various types of wings I use on different shoots...but they're harder than you'd think, to get them in the photo AND have the model looking good at the same time! :/ Ah well--one does what one can!

My 2 are grown now. (I'm waiting on grandchildren ) *giggles*

Thank you so much! Oddly enough, while full of mischief, these three girls ARE actually remarkably polite and sweet. Two of them have gone on a couple of medical missions to Guyana, and one cut off her long hair to donate to Locks of Love...and they're still under 18!

But definitely mischievous!

Bet it's nice to have yours out of the house eh--and yes, to be waiting on some grandies that you can spoil rotten, and then send home, when they're all wound up!

I agree--good things are definitely in store for all of 'em--although I can't claim 'em as my own, except in spirit. (I do know their parents are mighty proud, though--and who wouldn't be?! )

Thank you!!! If you were going to say only one thing about this image--that would be the thing I most wanted to hear--as I really REALLY wanted the flowers to look real...and I had so little "source" to create the flowers. (Since they were actually photos I'd taken of a potted plant I'd brought with me to the shoot.)

You've made my evening!
