Yesterday I was considering on scraping this mid-progress, but I'm glad I stuck with if and finished it. Getting the right contrast and color was very hard (I'm not sure if it right but whatever).Art Β©

The color balance is gorgeous 
I do miss something in the foreground though - as the BG seems painted while the character stands out with the black line art. It would be a lot better you could have repeated that somehow. I won't say that Alexis doesn't belong, but I would make the image more complete, if you get what I'm trying to say

It's a lot easier for me to do detail bg without lines but the opposite for characters.

yea, I can totally relate xD Β but I decide beforehand to do one or the other, as it makes the image appear more planned.
Having more line art closer to the viewer giver more depth if you insist on using lines for the character.

The only thing I would have changed would have been to maybe draw the grass in different directions as it looks a bit repetitive but other than that it's really amazingΒ

Something doesn't come out of nothing, it requires inspiration, reference and precedent. I was about to give upon this because half way through it didn't look as good as I hoped, but I stayed with if and it turn out okay.
I got the idea from two pictures, a colorful sunset and a scenic lake valley, and that's what inspired this pic.

Start with cartoony BGs, lines and so on, not too detailed. That's pretty much how I started.
