Description Scientific name: Nasutoceratops titusi
Diet: low-growing plants (at the Zoo they are fed leafy vegetables and fruit)
Projected natural lifespan: 14 years
Length: 4.5 meters (~15 feet)
Weight: 1.8 tonnes (~2 tons)
Locality: Utah, United States (Kaiparowits Formation), 75.9 Ma (Late Cretaceous Campanian)
Exhibit: Horn-Face Range

About:
When Nasutoceratops was first described it caused a sensation. Its head was almost unlike that of any ceratopsid, and for once its main unusual feature is not in its horn arrangement.

Description and behavior:
Nasutoceratops' genus name translates to "large-nosed horn face", which is an apt description of what makes Nasutoceratops unique. It has a large nasal cavity with pneumatic (air-filled) features, which was mostly used for display. Tubes inside the cavity could either cool down the body, like in ankylosaurs, or can be used to make honking sounds for communication, like in hadrosaurs. However, Nasutoceratops was still a ceratopsian, so the majority of its behaviors still resemble those of regular ceratopsians. Nasutoceratops formed large herds which numbered into the thousands. These herds were made of family groups and included males, females, adults and juveniles. Most of an individual's life was done in the herd, from hatching to mating to dying. During the mating season, young male Nasutoceratops duke it out in shoving matches, fighting with their cow-like horns until the winner gets the right to mate.

At the Zoo:
The Horn-Face Range houses eight Nasutoceratops.

The behavior is inspired mostly by cows and rhinos.

The skeletal I used belongs to Sampson et al., 2013.

The mass estimate comes from a deviation by Daizua123 .
