-Ungaikyo. Distorted Mirror-
A yokai whose name means “Mirror beyond the clouds”. Its said to be born from an old mirror who gained sentience, and is considered a type of tsukumogami. The term had many different meanings across the years, but is today generally understood as a specific type of yokai, born when an object used by humans reaches its 100th birthday and gains self-awareness. Tsukumogami usually assume a form resembling a monstrous version of the object they used to be. Unlike many yokais, tsukumogami aren't usually malicious or harmful to humans by nature, but can hold some grudge against their previous human owners depending on how well maintained they were in the their "previous life". An Ungaikyo has the ability to distort that which is reflected upon it, showing those who gaze upon it as hideous demonic versions of themselves. It may also have the ability to trap spirits in itself, which in some cases may start to manipulate the mirror for their own evil deeds from within. A similar legend exists in China, where King Zhou of the Shang dynasty used a demon revealing mirror called the Shomakyo to reveal the true form of his consort as the evil fox-shapeshifter, Daji. With her true nature exposed ahd her plans to ruin the kingdom foiled, she escaped to Japan where she again would wreak havoc as the evil kitsune, Tamamo no Mae.

A personal favorite of mine. Based on his appearance in the third volume of the Gazu Hyakki Tsurezure Bukuro by Toriyama Sekien. The mirror itself is based on a shinto shrine mirror instead of a personal one though.

Also an experiment with rendering and lineless art mixed with my traditional shading style. I had played around with it back when I did Odin, so I wanted to try something similar again. Still nowhere near as fast as I would like to be doing, but well, practice.
