Excuse me, but..
Is that a real question? Isn't it just amazing how some people have the skills to create realistic art. There is a big difference between a photograph and something that has been handmade. With drawing there is way more freedom than taking a picture of someone's face. 

It would be the same if I ask: Why would someone create an OC from a game/movie/series that actually already exist or create fan art of a character.

But it's showing the same thing. If I can hardly tell the shot apart from the drawing, what do I need it for? I don't need it twice.
This doesn't only count for this picture here, but for many realism paintings that are based on photographs.
I just don't get what you would need those for.
And yes, it is a real question, I seek to understand why a artform so useless is so popular.

Why would you create an OC that already exists? ... wouldnt that be fake?
But I like fan art.

1. It's a test of skill and technique. While you may think it not much different then a photo it is clearly a drawing. 

2. Beauty. There is a beautiful element with graphite and charcoal when they create a drawing like this. It adds a bit of character that a picture just can not capture. 

3. Bend rules that you can't with a photo. Add more contrasts, darken areas and highlight others just enough to bring out certain features that a camera can not. 

4. You can change what you want to change.

Lol... ah man... Just saw your gallery... I have no use for pony's "as an art form" either but I let the people do what they want to create anyway... if you like it: great, if you don't, you don't... but asking yourself why someone would copy a photograph in pencil to make it look the same (or even MORE the same as in hyperreal) boggles my mind.. I guess da vinci, michelangelo, ... were all very bad people since they draw as realistically as possible in their studies (as well as official work)... but hey... I wonder how you practice drawing from life?

Just realized my comment was just nasty... will keep it like this though, for the world to see... Sigh, another 2mins wasted time in my life... but it's ok... I probably needed it..

Ponies are just another form of furries or anime dude.
And I never said the artists were bad,
and sure Da vinci had a Canon, but he lost his battery, so he needed to draw it.
Next time, think, or at least read the leading comments, before you post something.
You're just embarrasing yourself.

My point was, that why draw something when you can make a photo shot of it,
and you come and talk about Michelangelo and Leonardo. You need therapy dude.

I guess you haven't read my "edit" and you went for it anyway... good luck though good luck, but your point doesn't make sense... why make a drawing when u can take a picture, why take a picture when you can make a movie, why sing a song while you can let someone else sing the same song... I mean seriously? dude? seriously? and furries? seriously?
