Little is known about Mortimer Toynbee before he joined up with Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutant Supremacy. According to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files on him, all we know is that he was born in York, England as a Changeling, a rare category of mutants that possesses an X-gene that manifests at birth instead of during puberty or a traumatic event during adolescence. As such, Mortimer was born with large eyes, green-hued skin and hair, sharp claws, and webbed feet. He was abandoned by his parents so early in his childhood that he couldn't remember them. He was placed in an orphanage where the other children continually tormented him, who regarded him as a freak due to his unusual features and freakish leaping agility, to say nothing of his eating habits. The other children called Mortimer names like "Warty Morty", "Wortimer", "Marty McFlycatcher", and "the Toynbee Toad".

Mortimer was so traumatized by his loneliness and the continual abuse he received that it affected his learning abilities. The teachers and administrators in the orphanage, therefore, regarded Mortimer as mentally challenged, even though he was actually quite gifted, which allowed him to quickly become an expert in mechanical engineering and electronics. So desperate did Mortimer become for affection that he developed a pathetically subservient personality and unquestioningly obeyed anyone he thought sincerely cared about him.

Shortly after his thirteenth birthday, after a severe beating from his bullies, Mortimer's X-gene fully activated, causing his body to experience rapid changes. His joints became more flexible, his legs became superhumanly strong, and his senses became better across the board. Mortimer's tongue also elongated and began to secrete a sticky resin. The pores of his hands and feet also possessed a similar secretion which allowed him to stick on walls.

The next time his fellow orphans attacked him, Mortimer fought back. His spit blinded one boy while his kick launched another several yards into the air. When the orphanage's nuns came out to break up the fight, Mortimer had the third boy suspended in the air with his tongue wrapped around the boy's neck. Realizing what he was doing, Mortimer dropped the boy and fled with one powerful kick launching him to the roof of the orphanage. A few more leaps and he was at the city limits and he just kept going.

Throughout his teenage years and early adulthood, Mortimer lived in the streets, using his mutant abilities to pickpocket people, evade the local police, and eat any scrumptious insects via his tongue. When wandering around Manchester, Mortimer is caught by several of the townspeople when he steals another man's wallet. The townspeople then form a lynch mob and nearly kill Mortimer, however, he's saved and the mob is driven off by the master of magnetism Magneto. Judging Mortimer to be strong, Magneto recruited him as one of the first members of the Brotherhood of Mutant Supremacy, with aim of carrying out a mutant supremacy agenda. Given shelter at Magneto's sanctuary at Island M and a purpose in life, Mortimer takes on the alias "Toad" after his abilities, appearance, and personality, becoming a mainstay member in the Brotherhood's main strike team.

S'all good, yo! See I know! Some things ya gotta undastand about Toad! T-O-A-D! T-O-A-D!

Another member of the Brotherhood, folks! And this one is one of my favorites, Toad! Like in Earth-616, he's a founding member of the team and he has always been loyal (some would say sycophantic) to Magneto, who he sees as an idol and surrogate father. A slimly, smart-mouthed punk with a British accent and a wise-guy attitude, he often hangs out with the strongest members of the Brotherhood like Avalanche and Blob to make himself look more tough than he actually is. Despite occasional poor treatment by his fellow mutants, Toad has proved himself as an important member, using his skills in engineering to maintain the Brotherhood's many devices on Island M and later Asteroid M and Genosha.

Instead of his jester look he had in his early days, I wanted to give Toad a more modern design, specifically the look of a street punk. Most of the inspiration is from the Ray Park version of the character in X-Men (2000) as that iteration of Toad is what made me interested in the character. I also gave him a blue, long-sleeved hoodie under his protective vest. As for his green-skinned, toad-like appearance, I got that from the Toad in the short-lived Wolverine and The X-Men cartoon.

I hope you guys like it.
