Description As preparations were underway for the Memorial Day celebration, Bardak was hard at work helping with the Memorial Day committee organizing most of the events. His unique military leadership skills and background had allowed him to coordinate production with great efficiency. With most of the volunteers having military backgrounds themselves, most of them defer to him when he took charge, despite other coordinators having more authority for this event. While most of the preparations were complete, Bardak received a late entry form for the event. It was a request to display a restored P-40 Flying Tiger for all to see. Despite these great idea, the paperwork Bardak received indicated the plane needs additional help before the upcoming deadline. Interested by this piece of ancient Earth technology, Bardak made arrangements with the committee to assist the restoration crew and proceeded to its location.

Upon arrival, Bardak marveled for a moment at the primitive airplane despite its in-completion. His moment had passed when he was approached by the restoration crew.

"Who the hell are you? King Arthur sends his best knight to help us slay the dragon" one of the mechanic said while the other chuckles

Bardak smirked at the comment then calmly replied, "More like help you finish your dragon...I'm General Bardak of the Guardians, General of the 8th Republic fleet"

Without hesitation, all 3 mechanics immediately became silent and stood at attention then briefly saluted him. Bardak quickly returned their salute and told them "At ease". The mechanics then explained their sudden saluting habit and how they have heard of Bardak and his incredible tales of his heroism. After a few introductions had occurred, all the retired soldiers and armored General proceeded to work on the Flying Tiger.

"So, you all used this plane back in WWII?" Bardak said as he used his advance tech to work on the fuel lines

"Damn right...Well not used per se...We all took care of her like she was one of our own" Johnny said

"I mostly handled the tires, landing gear, and frames" Zach replied

"I mostly handled the electronics" Greg added

"I mostly handled the engines, weapons, and just about everything else" Johnny said

"Must have been a beautiful plane back in its prime" Bardak said

"Ha...After we fixed it, yeah it was beautiful.... but after all those hotshots took it out and return it to us, we basically re-built this baby from scratch almost every-time." Zach replied

"This particular piece was one of the most over-worked, under-powered craft that could have come apart at anytime. I drove us all crazy having to constantly re-build her completely. When I got word that Greg managed to find these old bird after so long and asked Zach and me to re-build her one last time....Do you know what I said General?" Johnny asked

Bardak took a brief moment to look at the plane then turned his attention to Johnny and said, "Where are my tools?"

"Your damn right I said that boy...er...sir. How did you know?" Johnny quickly corrected himself

"The very first ship I commanded was a light cruiser the called the USSR Solomon. Although far more advanced than anything now; it was also one of the most overworked, under-powered vessels of its time. Most of the time, I was surprised we managed to complete our missions, even more surprised we made it back to base. It was decommissioned after a few years of use and I have commanded other ships with far better quality or technology; even my personal ship, the Helios, is far superior to the Solomon.  However, even today, there are certain times when would do almost anything to command the Solomon again" Bardak said

Everyone, including Bardak, greatly chuckled at such a story. The mechanics and Bardak spent the remaining hour exchanging war stories, experiences, and funny moments. With the look nearly complete, the engine was all that was left. As the other mechanics finished inspecting their work. Zach constantly turned his attention towards his watch and the outside.

"Where is Henry will that lift? Without him we can't get this engine on!" Zach said with a slightly annoyed tone

"I can assist with that..." Bardak said as he got close to the engine

"Sonny, I heard your strong but that engine is heavy as hell, its best to...WHAT THE HELL?" Johnny said with a surprised tone as he tried to maintain his balance and not fall off the wing. Bardak almost effortlessly lifted the aircraft engine and held it high on his left arm

"Something wrong Johnny?" Bardak said as if the engine was weightless

"What the hell do they feed you heroes?" Johnny inquired while Zach and Greg remained speechless from Bardak's strength

"Would you believe mystery meat?" Bardak said with an amused tone

Quickly returning to reality from a questionable joke, the mechanics quickly worked on the plane while Bardak held the engine in place. Some time had passed and the plane was complete. The mechanics and Bardak marveled at the fully restored Flying Tiger. Seeing the completed plane after so long brought a small tear to each of the mechanics eyes. After wiping away their tears, Johnny approached the armored General.

"I didn't think we would be done in time...Thank you for your help General" Johnny said as he extended out his hand

"Your Welcome...I'll notify the committee and tell them this plane is ready to be viewed by the public. Also, Thank you all for your years of service in a dark time in human history. Even though most people celebrate pilots, sailors, officers, and soldiers during these holidays... everyone's job in the service is important...especially mechanics" Bardak said as he saluted the 3 veteran mechanics. All 3 mechanics eagerly stood at attention and saluted back.

"Thank you, sir" all 3 veterans said in unison as they returned their hands back to their sides.

This occurs in

Not matter what occupation veterans had while in the service...those who have died defending this country from all forms of terrorism may be gone but as long as we remember our past and the sacrifices made to shape our present and give us a bright future for all... THEY WILL BE HONORED AND NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

Happy Memorial Day!!

Thank you...As I mentioned and Patton did say this..."Everyone's job in the Army is important."

Wait until the next military holiday...it may be more heart-felt or more encouraging...or both

Nice XD

Also he should take it for a spin and discover what piloting really is.

No computers just throttle, stick, gauges and pilot.

Thanks

Interesting idea...though Bardak wouldn't feel in danger since all he needs is his armor. If anything happened to the plane, he could just bail out and land safely on the ground

Thanks.. just because your not a solider doesn't mean you still can't fight or serve your country.

Take what you can get, my friend, and yeah, you don't have to pack an AR-15 to want to work hard to protect and serve your country

As I mentioned and I took a quote from Patton, "everyone's job in the service is important"

Not a problem, pal, and glad to keep such an interest in your work besides, they've done so much for us, how can we not do the same in turn, and in whatever way we can to help?
