Description Its an old design I found in a notebook a while ago, And I realized it looked like it could be vespid since its partially insectoid/beetle.
This is primarily an air superiority fighter with short duration low orbit capabilities. Not meant for deep space. The design is highly maneuverable and adaptable to atmosphere giving it an edge over aerospace fighters
The primary weapon is an enormous neutron focusing crystal, similar to whats used in the vespid rifles. Capable of bypassing armor and damaging sensitive organic and electronic equipment inside enemy fighters. Thicker armor protects against its damage but cannot stop it. However this weapon, while instantaneous and therefore does not suffer Leading its target, is fairly short range (24inch) due to the difficulty of focusing a large flux of neutrons.

The ship boasts expendable weaponry including symbiotic rocket pods range 36 inches and two squid class organic missiles.

The vespid pilot interfaces directly with the ship using a specialized version of the "communication headsets" given to vespid commanders. This allows the multifaceted and multispectral sensor dome integrated onto the canopy, similar to insect eyes, to feed directly into the visual processing center of the pilot. While extremely fast and maneuverable, and capable of regeneration, the armor is no better than that of a barracuda. However top speeds are on par with the fastest enemy fighter, without sacrificing superior atmospheric maneuverability.

This ship was genetically engineered using dna from the vespid queens, plants that symbiotically link to vespid nests, and it is suspected, a bit of tyranid. The only pieces of technology implemented are the neutron cannon, its power supply, and the neural interface.

The core of the ship boasts an iridescent shell similar to that of the vespid while the outer wings express more plant like features. Since there is little metal in this its radar signature is remarkably low.

This is cool!
Something I've been planning and gearing up for on my alien texture series in my gallery, but I'm having trouble with my video drivers not letting me run the apps I need to even apply my textures as bumpmaps to generic ship design configurations - to see what they would look like on a model.

Very creative stuff your making!

I noticed a possible problem with this. The description claims it to have a low radar signature due to its lack of alloys, the modern military doesn't use radar on the ground because of ground clutter (namely trees). I'm not calling anyone a liar or anything, just pointing out that while the signature will be low, it may still be fairly noticeable. Nitpicking to prevent nitpicking.

Valid point. Reinforced by the fact that who knows that method of detection the "enemy" will be employing. EM, Psycher, etc etc. If I ever get around to generating a spec sheet for it for apoc, I will defiantly have to run it through the ringer from many angles.

I could help with "running them through the ringer", that is if you'd like. I've studied equipment both military and civillian since I was a kid so I'm fairly well versed in those areas. Two heads are better than one.

I shall endeavor to remember that when/if I get around to making that data sheet Thanks

the reason they don't is because the vespid race don't have space technology and all air fighting in the Tau empire is left to the air cast

That's because the fluff lacks imagination.

if the tau really did care about the greater good of the tau empire they would have no problem using the mind control, I mean interpretation helmets, given to the vespid, jack them into a symbiotic fighter and send them out to cause a world of hurt. By sticking them in fighters that are not capable of more than low orbit maneuvers they are entirely dependent on the tau empire for supply. Granted, they can take supplies from the planet, but the tau can just bombard from orbit if they get out of hand.
Then again because the fluff for the vespid is rather shallow, It would make sense if the hive like bugs burrowed deep making upnesting them difficult.

At first I thought this was a Tyranid ship

Nope my design, 10" long made of wood, clay, and putty.

Semi-dosgusting but very insectoid. I like it quite a lot.

I love the hex pattern on the (?) bridge area. Did you make your own mask for this, or is there somewhere I can buy self-adhesive masks of this sort?

The hex pattern on the cockpit/sensor dome. Done with simple hex mesh or hex stencils. Just print on a printer and cut out. 90% of my custom stencils are just cut out of paper.
